This inventionrelates to a container and support therefor, and while the invention is applicable to different forms and kinds of containers, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated it is shown as applied to a container of general parallelepiped form such as is used to contain sheets of cleansing tissue or paper.

Containers filled with sheets of cleansing tissue or crepe paper, paper napkins, etc.,-are now numerous on the market. Such containers very commonly have an opening at the front side thereof through which the sheets therein may successively be withdrawn,

It is an object of this invention to provide such a container which can be very easily and conveniently mounted upon a plate-like support such as a sunshield or visor of an automobile.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a container such as used for sheets of paper, said container being of general parallelepiped form and having a flap formed at its rear side whereby a flat plate-like support may be disposed beneath said flap so as to engage the top and one end of said container to support the same.

It is another object of the invention to provide a container preferably of right angled parallelepiped form, the same having a slit cut in its rear side to form a flap preferably of L-shape and disposed at one corner of said container so that a flat plate-like support can be inserted beneath said flap, which support has a top and side at right angles to each other to extend along and engage the top and one end of said container to support the same.

It is still another object of the invention to provide such a container and support as set forth in the preceding paragraph in which said support has a shallow recess formed in its rear side shaped to receive and fit said flap.

It is further an object of the invention to provide a container such as set forth in the preceding paragraph save one, which support has a shallow recess formed in its front side adapted to receive the portion of said container adjacent said flap.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a container embodying the invention and shown supported upon one corner of a sunshield of an automobile;

Fig. 2 is a vertical section through a portion of an automobile and sunshield thereof and container carried thereon;

Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation of the container;

Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the container shown and while this might take diiferent forms,

in the embodiment ofthe invention illustrated it is shown as a right angled parallelepiped or a container which is rectangular in transverse and longitudinal cross section. Such a container is commonly used to contain sheets of paper such as cleansing tissue indicated at II in Figs. 3 and 4. Such sheets are usually arranged to be dispensed through an opening Illa in the front of container [0.

In accordance with the present invention the container I0 is provided with a slit lflb at its rear side lllc, which slit at its end portion extends substantially at right angles to one long edge and one short edge of side I00. Said end portion [0d of the slit extending from the long side is disposed intermediate the ends of said side and the total length of the slit is preferably a major portion of the length of said side or container. Said slit also has portions Hie which extend respectively at right angles to said end portions and said portions we meet at substantially a right angle. Said slit thus forms a flap lflf which is of general L shape with the lower corner of said L disposed at one upper corner of said rear side No. It may be stated that the top of the container as referred to herein is the top portion shown in Fig. 4. The front of the container is the side at the right of Fig. 4 and the rear side of the container is at the left of Fig. 4.

With the flap H1) so formed a Hat plate-like support such as the sunshield l2 can be inserted beneath said flap l0 and will have its outer or top edge l2a engaging the top of said container and its side edge l2b engaging one end of said container, said shield I2 engaging said top and end throughout the length of flap Ill}. The retainer were made of stiff or rigid be swung downwardly and the sheets II will be in very accessible and convenient position to be pulled or removed from the container by the occupant of. the front seat of the automobile. The container can thus be easily and quickly placed upon the sunshield l2 and will be retained firmly thereon and the sheets II will be very accessible to the occupant. Shield 12 is shown as mounted upon the rod M which as is customary, will be carried in a bracket secured to the wall 13 of the automobile. As is well known, said shields 12 are normally in the raised or upper position as shown in Fig. 2, and are arranged to be swung down in front of the wind shield when in operation.

Said support l5 has its top and end at right angles and can be'placed in the container in the samemanner as the sun shield 12 and as shown in Fig. 7.: Support I5 is preferably provided with a shallow recess l5a having a depth at least as great as the thickness of flap lllf.- The bottom of recess I5a is preferably parallel to the flat or side surfaces of support Hi. When the support is inserted inthe container or the container is placed over the support as shown in Figs. 4, 6 and 7, the bottom edges of flap if as well as its intermediate edge engage the edges or walls of the recess l5a. Said support I5 is also preferably formed with a recess I 5b in its front side or the side opposite that having the recess I511 therein. Recess IE1) is formed as shown in Fig. 8 and is shaped to receive the portion lily of the side Illc which is adjacent flap 10-). As shown in Fig. 4, the portion leg will have its edges engaging the edges of recess b. Recess l5b will also have a depth at least as great as the thickness of side lflc so that said side will be received in said recess. The support l5 may be attached to the wall or arail ina bathroom or other room by screws or other fastenings extending through holes I50. When the container Ill is placed upon the support l5 and the flap I0 and adjacent portion received in recesses 15a and I5?) the container is very firmly supported and will be in convenient position for-the sheets I I to be withdrawn therefrom. The container can thus be supported in the bathroom or otherwise and will not have to be placed upon a shelf, radiator or other support in a loose condition. v

- From the above description it willbe seen that I have provided a very simple and efiicient struc ture of container and one which can be very readily supported upon a flat plate-like support. The slit ifib and flap I01 can be very easily made and it could be placed in the: container when the container is being manufactured and formed. Said slit could be scored or perforated when the container is made so that it could be easily severed or opened later. Many containers or cartons containing various articles could be so formed to be mounted upon supports. Ifa confairly thick material the piece cut out to form the opening Illa could be used as, the support for the container. The container can 'thusbe easily and quicklyplaced upon a convenientsupport and the sheets H or other articles therein will be in very convenient and accessible position. The device has been amply demonstrated in actual practice and found to be very successful and eflicient.

It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts, without departing from the scope of applicant's invention, which generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A container made of sheet material and being of general parallelepiped form having one large side thereof provided with a slit forming a flap, said slit extending from one long edge of said side into said side and to one short edge thereof whereby said container may be placed over a fiat plate-like support adapted to fit against the inner top side and inner side of one end of said box with said flap at the outer side of said support and the remainder of said container at the other side thereof said support thus extending into said container through said slit.

- 2. The structure set forth in claim 1, said support having a recess formed in the side thereof engaged by said flap shaped to receive said flap.

3. The structure set forth in claim 1, said support having a recess formed in the side thereof engaged by said flap shaped to receive said flap and having a recess formed on its opposite side adapted to receive the portion of said side adjacent said flap. 4. A container of general right angled parallelepiped form having a slit formed in one large side thereof extending substantially at right angles to a long and short edge of said side for a certain distance and then extending parallel to said long and short edge respectively to form a right angle, said slit thus forming a flap of general L shape whereby a flat plate-like support having a top and side at right angles to each other may be inserted beneath said fiap and engage the inner side of the top of said container and the inner side of one end thereof for supporting the same.

5. A container of general right angled parallelepiped form having a slit cut at one large side thereof extending substantially at right angles to a long and short edge of said side for a certain distance and then extending parallel to said longand short edge respectively to form a right angle, said slit thus forming a flap of general L shape and a flat plate-like support for said container having its top and one side at right angles adapted to be inserted under said flap and engage the inner side of the top of said container and the inner side of one end thereof with said flap at one side thereof and the remainder of said container at the other side.

-6. The structure set forth inclaim 5, said support having a shallow recess in its outer side shaped to fit and receive said flap.

'7. The structure set forth in claim 5, said support having a shallow recess in its outer side shaped to receive said flap and having a shallow recess at its opposite side atthe lower portion thereof adapted to receive the portion of said side of said container adjacent said flap".

8. The structure set forth in claim 5, said support having a recess cut therein shaped to receive made of sheet material which consists in forming a slit in one fiat side extending from a long edge of said side to a short edge thereof, cutting a piece from the opposite side of said container having a side and end substantially at right an gles and inserting said piece under said flap in position engaging the inner side of the top of said container to form a support.

10. A support for a container of substantially parallelepiped form having a fiap formed in one large side adjacent an upper corner thereof comprising a flat plate having a side and end substantially at right angles to each other, said plate having a shallow recess formed in one side of the body thereof adapted to receive said flap.

11. The structure set forth in claim 10, said support also having a shallow recess in its oppo site side of the body thereof shaped to receive the portion of said side adjacent said flap.

12. A container made of sheet material and being of general parallelepiped form having one large side thereof provided with a slit forming a flap, said slit extending to the edge of said side whereby a thin flat support can be inserted under said flap so as to be disposed at the inner side thereof and engage the top of said container so that said container is hung on or supported by said support.
