STORE SHELVING DISPLAY FACING Filed Feb. 15, 1941 INVENTCR. ANTON N- HORNUN Q Patented June 20, 1944 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE STORE SHELVING DISPLAY FACING Anton N. Hornung, Los Angeles, Calif. Application February 15, 1941, Serial No. 379,144
2 Claims.
This invention relates to the art of providing a molding that is securely fixed to the shelving front edge of store furniture and having a metal facing so constructed and arranged to provide means to releasably hold tickets or display cards in desired positions.
An object of the invention is to provide a metal facing for receiving price tags, tickets, display cards, and the like, wherein the card is held bowed inwardly.
Another object of the invention is to providea metal display facing that gives a streamline appearance and sets off price tags to the customers vision at all times.
Another object is to provide a molding having ametal facing to display price tags and to give an ornamental appearance to the shelving and yet which will prove thoroughly practical and eflicient in use.
This invention may have a variety of applications and certain of the features of construction may be embodied in a variety of structures.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention.
Figure 1 is a fragmental exaggerated perspective view of the invention as applied to a fragment of grocery shelving.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 22, Fig. 1 showing the invention fixed to a fragment of a shelf front edge.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the invention showing how the facing plate fits to the molding and with a price ticket mounted thereon.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the molding.
Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the metal facing.
A grocery shelving l is shown which is of the usual type used in grocery stores and open air markets and only such portion thereof illustrated as required to locate the device of my invention.
The end 2, shelves 3 and bottom 4 are, or may be of any approved construction.
The molding 5 is provided with a straight portion 6 adapted to fit flatwise against the outer edge I of the shelf 3, or on the bottom shelf 4 is applied to the top side near the edge, so that a nail or other means may be readily used for connecting the parts together.
The outer face of the molding is formed with a longitudinal groove l I and a bead l2 and the top face is provided with a longitudinal V-shaped groove l3 and the bottom directly under the bead l2 a cut out or notch I4 is shown.
A metal facing l5 which may be made of aluminum is provided with a tapered jaw 16 at its top that extends downwardly and is slidably mounted in the V-shaped groove l3 of the mold-.
ing 5 and forms a lock between the facing and the molding.
The metal facing i5 is constructed with an ornamental bead l1 and a bottom bead l8 and an ornamental inwardly curved central surface 19 having an arc-shaped groove 20 extending longitudinally of the facing and that is slidably mounted in the groove ll of the molding. -In
addition to presenting a streamline appearance,
by forcing part of the finger ora pencil in the groove 20, and then moving the finger or pencil outwardly and by reason of the curved shiny surface of the facing the cards are maintained under tension and therefore, present a neat desirable appearance at all times.
The bottom of the metal facing I5 is provided with a flange 24 that fits snugly into the notch I4 of the molding 5 and may be fixed thereto by nails or other means if desired.
I claim: 1. In a device of the character set forth for attachment to shelving comprising a molding provided at its top with a longitudinal V-shaped groove and at its bottom with a longitudinal notch; a metal facing provided at its top with a longitudinal tapered jaw extending downwardly that is slidably mounted into said V-shaped groove of the molding to gripand form. a lock thereto; a flange at the 'bottom that fits into said longitudinal notch and inwardly curved central surface provided with an arc-shaped groove that is slidably mounted in a groove of said molding and niche means to hold display cards therein.
2. A device of the character set forth for attachment to shelving comprising a molding provided with a straight portion adapted to fit fiatwise against the outer edge of a shelf and at its top with a longitudinal V-shaped groove and at its bottom with a longitudinal notch; the outer face of said molding is provided with a longitudinal groove and a bead; a metal facing provided at its top with a longitudinal tapered jaw extending downwardly that is slidably mounted into said V-shaped groove of the molding to grip and form. a lock thereto; a flange at the bottom that fits into said longitudinal notch and an inwardly curved central surface provided with an arcshaped groove that is slidably mounted in said groove of said molding and at th front with a top and bottom ornamental bead and niches for the reception of two of the edges of a card.
