ASSIGNORS TO CHARLES R. SAXTON' AND. COLUMBUS P. DESHAZO OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED REED-HOOK AND PlCKlNG-CO'MB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,981, dated November 30, 1880.
Application filed June 4, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern: V
Be it known that we, TRION T. HARRIS and JOHN J. HARDIN, citizens of the United States, residing at Oottondale, in the county of Tuscaloosa and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gombined Reed-Hook and Picking-Comb; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawin g, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a combined reed-hook and picking-comb for the use of weavers, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of our reed-hook and picking-comb.
A represents the handle, which is made comparatively broad at one end, and at this end closed at both edges. This part of the handle contains the picking-comb B, which is provided with a small knob, b, that projects through a slot, a, in the handle, and by means of which the comb may be projected, as shown, for use, or drawn into the handle when not desired for use.
One edge of the handle A is straight and closed, while the other edge is curved and tapering, so as to reduce the width of the handle. This edge is also grooved or open like an ordinary pocket-knife handle, and in the smaller end is pivoted the blade 0, the outer end of which forms the hook D. The blade 0 with its hook D can be opened and closed the same as an ordinary knife-blade.
The instrument thus constructed can be carried in the vest-pocket, and is convenient and handy for Weavers.
Having thus fully described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the combined reed-hook and picking-comb herein described, consisting of the handle A, sliding comb B, and pivoted blade 0, with hook D, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony whereof we aftix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
