Description

A. A. STRUHL WALLET Filed m 51, 1940 INVENTOR 0 ARCH/E A. STEUHZ. 2%
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 22, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE warms! Archie A. Struhl, remit, N. 1. Application May 31, 1940, Serial No. 338,118 1 Claim. its-es) This invention relates to wallets.
An object of this invention is to provide a wallet having a main pocket divided by a. partition into front and rear compartments, the partition being in the form of a concealed pocket open at an edge remote from the opening in the main pocket, and said partition being removable from the main pocket, but attached to the wallet by a flexible connection.
It is a further object of this invention to provide in a wallet oi the character described, slide actuated fasteners to close the opening in the main pocket independently of the partition. Yet a further object of this invention is to provide a wallet having a pocket open at one end, and a partition member within the pocket and having a flap folded over the front wall of the pocket and attachable to the pocket by a snap fastener, the partition being in the form of a concealed pocket open at a point remote from the opening of the first mentioned pocket.
Another object 01 this invention is to provide a strong, durable and compact wallet oi the character described, which shall be relatively inextpensive to manufacture, attractive in appearance, sand yet practical and eflicient to a high degree. Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinaiter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of and arrangement of parts which will be exemplifled in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claim.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the inner side of the wallet with the partition partly projecting from the main pocket of the wallet;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the inner side of the wallet, with the partition within the wallet;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the concealed pockets; and
Fig. 6 is a partial view similar to Fig. i, but illustrating a modified construction.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, is
designates a wallet embodying the invention, made of leather or the like material. Said wallet has an outside wall It and an inside wall elements,
stitched thereto at the sides by stitching i3, and at the bottom edge by stitching It. Between walls ii and Ills the main pocket it, open at the top. The upper edge 12a 0! wall i2 is disposed below the upper dge of wall ll. Stitched to the upper edge of wall I! is a longitudinal strip 0! tape ll projecting above the upper edge Ila of said well and carrying a series 0! upwardly projecting locking fingers i9.
Stitched to the inner side of wall H, is a longitudinal strip or tape 28 projecting downwardly toward tape it, and carrying a plurality oi lockins lingers 21, adapted to be interlocked with the lingers it by a slider 23.
It will be noted that when the slider is moved to one end of the wallet. the main pocket I! is open, and when the slider 23 is moved to the other end of the wallet, said pocket is closed.
Within the pocket i8 is a partition 25. Said partition member 25 comprises superimposed walls 28 and 21 stitched together at their side edges and upper edges by stitching 28 and 29, respectively.
There is thus iormed between the walls 28 and 21, a pocket It open at the bottom. This pocket is concealed and cannot be detected when the wallet is opened because member 25 looks like a partition and not like a pocket.
The pocket partition 26 is of less length than the wallet and the end edges thereof are iiiclined downwardly and inwardly toward the open end of the partition, to facilitate insertion of the partition into the main pocket,
The partition member 25 is attached to the wallet by a flexible connector or strap 35 stitched at one end to an end edge of the partition adiacent the upper edge of said partition, and at the other end, to the inside of the wallet by one of the side seems it which attaches the walls ii 0 and I: together.
edges 85 facilitate insertion the pocket i8. The partithe pocket l3, but re- The inclined end of the partition into tion may be removed from mainsattached to the wallet by the strap 38.
The wallet may be folded about its mid section in the usual manner. Stitched to the wall I2 is a wall ll. Said wall It may be stitched to the wall H by the stitching It at one end oi the wallet, and by the bottom stitching IS. The upper edge of wall Iii is stitched to the wall i2 by the stitching 12 which attaches the tape or strip i8 to said wall. Wall All iorms a pocket open at one end. The length of wall so is less than half of the wallet so that the pocket 45 is on one side i2 of the wallet only.
Within the pocket 45 is a partition member 48 having a flap 49 foldable over the wall 40 and attached thereto by a snap fastener construction II. The partition 48 comprises two walls I2 and 53 stitched together at their upper and lower edges by stitching and 56, and at one end by stitching 51. The end of the partition 48 remote from the flap 48 is open, the stitching I1 being located adjacent the flap 49.
It will now be noted that the partition 48 forms a concealed pocket 60 open at one end.
The wallet may be provided with an addition pocket 62 substantially similar and symmetrically disposed with respect to the wall 40.
In Fig. 6 there is shown a modified construction, wherein the partition 25 is attached to the wallet. by a link 10 made of spring wire and pivotally attached at one end to the partition and at the other-end to the inside of the wallet.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. v
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A wallet having an outside wall and an inside wall coextensive therewith and stitched together at their end edges and at their lower edges forming a pocket open at its other end. fslider actuated fasteners for closing said pocket, a partition within said pocket comprising front and rear walls stitched together at their end and upare achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set
