This invention relates to a flshermans hat, and it is an object of the invention to provide a head piece of this kind wherein the crown is constructed to provide a leader box with means 5 within such box for maintaining moist the leaders therein.

Another object of the invention is to provide a hat of this kind wherein the crown portion is provided therearound with bands having means 10 for effectively holding fly hooks or the like.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a flshermans hat comprising means to provide for the protection of matches, cigarettes or kindred smoking appliances and wherein a spinner 5 box is also provided.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved fishermans hat whereby certain important advantages 80 are attained and the article rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will herein- 35 after be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:

In the accompanying drawing, C denotes the crown of a flshermans hat which may be made o of any material desired and the top central portion of the crown C is formed to provide a box I open at the top and which box is disposed entirely within the crown portion C of the hat. This box I is of such dimensions as to be particularly 5 used in holding a supply of leaders.

The open top face of the box I is normally closed by a lid 2 of suitable material hingedly connected, as at 3, with the crown C so that said lid 2 may be readily raised or lowered as required.

60 For convenience in manipulating the lid 2 the same is provided at a point diametric to the hinge 3 with the handle ring 4.

The inner face of the lid 2 has disposed thereover and adhesively or otherwise secured thereto 55 a pad 5 of felt or other desired absorbent material. This'pad has its marginal portions terminating inwardly of the marginal portions of the lid 2 so that the pad may be readily received within the upper portion of the box I. This pad is adapted to be dampened whereby the leaders within the box I may be maintained in a desired moistened condition.

Surrounding the crown C at its junction with the rim R of the hat is a band 6 of suitable material but preferably aluminum and the lower marginal portion of this band 6 is defined by an outstanding flange I which overlies and has close contact with the inner marginal portion of the rim R.

Riveted, as at 8, or otherwise secured to the .flange I at points spaced along the opposite sides of the crown C are the upstanding tubes 9. Each of these tubes 9 is open at its top and, as particularly illustrated in Figure 3, the rivet 8 passes through the bottom of said tube through the flange I and the adjacent portion of the rim R whereby the band B is effectively maintained in applied position. The end portion of the rivet 8 within the tube 9 carries a loop III or kindred member to which is attached an end portion of a retractile coil spring II. This spring II is of desired length and is provided at its outer portion with a downwardly facing hook l2 or the like with which is adapted to engage a fly hook F. This fly hook F, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 3, is also adapted to be connected with an upwardly facing hook member l4 extending outwardly from a second band I5 encircling the crown C at a desired distance above the band 6. This band I5 is also preferably made of aluminum although it can be formed of such other material as desired.

The hook member I, as particularly illustrated in Figure 3, is riveted to both the band l5 and to the adjacent portion of the crown C whereby said hook member provides means for maintaining the band l5 in desired applied position upon the crown C.

The portion of the fiange 1 at the front end of the hat has rigidly secured thereto in any manner desired a spinner box It of aluminum or other light material and which is provided in its upper portion with the swinging closure member l'l normally maintained closed by an elastic fastener l8 which has detachable connection with an outstanding member l9 carried by the lower end of the box l6. 1

The rear portion of the upper band l5 has extending outwardly therefrom'a pair of spaced spring clips 20 between which is adapted to be held a suitable container 2| for cigarettes or the like. Adjacent to the clips 20 the band l5 has extending outwardly therefrom the additional spaced clips 22 which are adapted to hold therebetween a receptacle 23 for matches or kindred articles. The lower portion of the container 2| is adapted to be received within a cup-like member 23 riveted or otherwise securely fastened to the flange I of the band 8. The lower portion of the receptacle 23 is also adapted to be received within a cup-like member 25 suitably secured to the flange I.

In the making of the hat it is to be suitably balanced where necessary by placing suitable weights under the bottom band 6 where such weights will be out of sight.

It is believed to be obvious that in addition to the various items hereinbefore referred to as being mounted upon the hat, it is-within the scope of the invention to provide other instrumentalities such as holders for a pipe.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a fishermans hat constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and employed; and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason '01 the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. 4

I claim:

1. In combination with a fishermans hat comprising a crown, bands extending around the crown and spaced one above the other, and members carried by said bands for holding fly hooks therebetween, said members also providing means to secure the bands to the hat.

2. In combination with the crown of a. hat, bands disposed therearound and spaced one above the other, hook members carried by one of the bands, retractile springs secured to the second hand, and hook members carried by the retractil springs, the hook members of both of the bands being adapted to be engaged with fly hooks to hold the same to the hat.

3. A fishermans hat including a crown and brim, a rigid band surrounding the crown adjacent to the brim, a flange defining the lower margin of said band and overlying th inner portion of the brim, a second rigid band secured to and surrounding the crown at a point above and spaced from the first band, and means carried by each of the bands at adjacent portions for detachably holding a receptacle to the hat.
