INDIVIDUAL TOOTH BRUSH HOLDER Filed Dec, 9, 1936 Patented May 24, 1938 v UNITED STATES" PATENT OFFICE I 2,118,465 INDIVIDUAL TOOTH BRUSH HOLDER Henry B. Grose, Augusta, Ga. Application December-5, 1936, Serial No. 115,050
4 Claims.
This invention relates to toothbrush holders and'has for its object to, provide a comparatively simple-and inexpensive device of this character adapted to be suspended from a wall or other 5 suitable supportand by means of which the individual tooth brushes of different members of a family may be properly identified and conveniently supported when not in use so as to avoid confusion and promiscuous use of the different brushes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder comprising an attaching plate having its intermediate portion at the lower longitudinal edge thereof provided with spaced suspension hooks adapted to receive individual tooth brushes and provided at its opposite ends with laterally projecting ledges or shelves for supporting a tube of tooth paste or can of powdered dentifrice, said end ledges or shelves also serving as guards or shields to prevent accidental displacement of the suspended tooth brushes.
A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efiiciency.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which similarnumerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an individual tooth brush holder constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken the line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating a modified form of the invention.
The improved individual tooth brush holder forming the subject-matter of the present invention comprises an attaching plate 5 preferably 40 formed of metal and substantially rectangular in shape, said attaching plate being reinforced and strengthened by an ornamental outwardly pressed bead 6 conforming to the shape of the plate 5 and spaced inwardly therefrom, as shown. 45 Openings 1 are formed in the upper edge of the plate at the corners thereof for the reception of screws or similar fastening devices, by means of which the plate may be conveniently attached to a wall or other suitable support.
The lower longitudinal edge of the plate 5 is formed with spaced pairs of incisions 8 defining intermediate tongues, the metal between each pair of incisions being bent or curved upwardly to form suspension hooks 9 adapted to receive individual tooth brushes. The incisions 8 extend from the lower longitudinaledge of the plate 5 to the adjacent portion of the reinforcing bead B so thatlthe hooks are all confined to that portion of the plate between the lower edge thereof and the head "6, and the bead, therefore, serves to re.- inforce and strengthen said hooks at their points of attachment to the plate.
The face of the plate immediately above the suspension hooks 9 is provided with a series of panels Ill each adapted to have printed therein or otherwise represented thereon the names of the individual members of the family, certain of the panels having the word Guest printed thereon, as shown. The panels are so arranged that one of said panels will be disposed directly above each suspension hook 9 so that after brushing the teeth the user of the tooth brush can suspend the brush on the hook opposite the panel containing his or her name and thus avoid confusion and promiscuous use of the different tooth brushes. If a guest happens to be at the house, said guest or guests will, of course, suspend their tooth brushes below the panels marked Guest.
The metal constituting the attaching plate at the opposite ends thereof is bent laterally at the lower longitudinal edge of the plate to form spaced supporting ledges or shelves l and H, said ledges or shelves being disposed at substantially right angles to the vertical plane of the plate and having their intermediate portion dished or concaved at l2 to formv seats for a tube of tooth paste or a can of powdered dentifrice. It will here be noted that the shelves l0 and II not only serve to receive and support tubes of tooth paste, dentifrice'and the like but as said shelves are disposed on opposite sides of the suspension hooks 9, they form, in efiect, guards or shields and assist in preventing accidental displacement of the tooth brushes from the suspension hooks. In other Words, inasmuch as the suspension hooks are arranged at the center of the plate and between the supporting shelves, the user of a brush must approach the holder from the front thereof and the shelves serve to prevent said user from attempting to remove a tooth brush by reaching for his or her tooth brush from either end of the plate which would tend to displace the tooth brushes supported on the hooks adjacent the particular tooth brush to be removed from the holder. Furthermore, these supporting shelves tend to reinforce and strengthenthe attaching plate and the concaved seats l2 likewise reinforce the metal constituting said shelves.
In Figure 3 of the drawing, there is illustrated a modified form of the invention in which but a single supporting ledge or shelve I3 is provided, said shelve being disposed centrally of the supporting plate and the suspension hooks l4 arranged on opposite sides thereof.
It will, of course, be understood that the individual tooth brush supports may be made in diiferent sizes and shapes and provided with any desired number of suspension hooks without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A tooth brush holder comprising a supporting plate having a circumferential outwardly pressed reinforcing bead, the plate between the lower longitudinal edge thereof and said reinforcing bead being provided with spaced incisions opening through said longitudinal edge and the material between the incisions being pressed upwardly to form suspension hooks.
2. A tooth brush holder comprising an attaching plate having an outwardly pressed circumferential reinforcing bead, the plate between the lower longitudinal edge thereof and said reinforcing bead being provided with a plurality of pairs of spaced incisions opening through said 1ongitudinal edge and the material between the incisions of each pair being bent upwardly to form a suspension hook defining a vertical slot, the fixed end of each hook gradually merging into said reinforcing bead.
3. A tooth brush holder comprising an attaching plate provided with spaced pairs of incisions opening through the lower longitudinal edge thereof and defining straight vertically disposed intermediate tongues, the metal between each pair of incisions being bent upwardly to form a suspension hook.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a tooth brush holder stamped from a single sheet of metal and comprising an elongated body portion having its lower longitudinal edge at the opposite ends of the plate bent laterally and said longitudinal edge between the bent portions of the plate provided with spaced pairs of incisions defining straight vertically disposed tongues, the metal between each pair of incisions being pressed laterally and upwardly to form a suspension hook.
