Description

INVENTOR. fyi/i022 Kan BY g Y n A/ORNEY.
M. KAHN NOVELTY B0X Filed Oot. 28. 1935 Patented Dec. 14, 1937 UNITE STATES NOVELTY BOX Milton Kahn, New York,
art M fg. Co., New
Application October 28,
4 Claims.
This invention relates to a novelty box, and its principal object is to provide a box which while normally usedas a container will simultaneously constitute a mechanical ornamentation and toy, that will impart decorativeness, pleasure, or entertainrnent'. V
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying draWne,-
Fig. 1 is a plan View showing the novelty box of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional elevation of the box shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing the box With its hinged iigure and toy disposed in an upright state.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view, showing a sidev elevation of the novelty box as it appears with its figure in the erect state shown in Fig. 3.
The box l proper consists of an oblong container 2 having a cover 3 comprising a top 4 and sides 5. To one of said sides is pasted, by a layer 6 of glue, a cardboard 1 preferably forming an integral part of a cardboardgure 8, which is rendered hingeable at 9 by provision of a slit I 0, whereby the gure B may be swung about hinge 9 and disposed either in a'horizontal or llying-down state upon the top 4, or in an Vupright position as shown in Figs. 3, 4. The cardboard figure 8 and its integral portion 'l are of a thickness considerably greater than that of the covertop 4, for requisite uprightness and support. At the rear side of the figure 3 is located a bracket Il of light cardboard having a flap l2 rwhich is glued to the back of the gure, whereby said bracket may be disposed either flatly against the rear of the ligure to permit the latter to lie down upon the top 4 of the box, as shown in Figs. 1, 2,
. or the bracket l l may be disposed perpendicularly to the figure 8 to support the latter in the upright position shown in Figs. 3, 4.
As herein illustrated, the container 2 is intended to hold sheets of letter paper i3, and during the period that the letter paper is being con- N. Y., assigner to Novel- York, N. Y., a firm 1935, sena! No. 47,177 (o1. 22e-s) sumed, or after it is used up, or before igis sold, the box i may be utilized with the iigure 8 in horizontal or upright positions for display, ornamentation, as a toy, or for pleasure and entertainment.
Variations may be of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:*
1. A polygonal novelty box having the combination of a merchandise container, a telescopic 10 cover for said container, aout-out figure, a board hinged to the bottom of said gure, said boardV being secured to the side of said cover, and said gure depending from said hinging normally lying upon the top of said cover.
2.' A polygonal novelty box having the combination of a merchandise container, a telescopic cover for said container, a cut-out figure, a board hinged to the bottom of said figure, said board being secured to the side of said cover whereby said hinging is in registry with the intersection of the top and side of the cover, and said iigure depending from said hinging normally lying upon thel top of said cover.
3. A polygonal noveltyV box having the combination of a merchandise container, a telescopic cover for said container, a cut-out figure, a board hinged to the bottom of said figure, said board being secured at the side of said cover, said figure depending from said hinging normally lying upon the top of said cover, and means adapted to maintain said gure in an upright position.
4. A polygonal novelty box having the combination of a merchandise container, a telescopic cover for said container, a cut-out ligure, a board hinged to the bottom of said gure, said board being secured to the side of said cover whereby said hinging is in Vregistry with the intersection, of the top and side of the ccver, said igure depending from said hinging normally lying upon 40 the top of said cover, and a bracket operable to maintain the gure in an upright position.k
