Description
Sept. 7, 1937. L, L; BRAY 2,092,664 I ILLUMINATED S I GNAL Filed NOV. 6, 1955 w Za'wrerwel. Brgy.
' I NV ENTO R HIS ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES Patented Se t. 7, 1937 PATENT OFFICE mwmm'mn sromr. Lawrence L. Bray, Waukesha, Wis. Application November 6, 1935, Serial No. 48,594 1 Claim. '(01. 171-429) My invention relates to illumination and signaling devices and has among its objects and advantages the provision or an improved accessory for conventional flash-lights.
' In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation or a conventional.
flash-light showing my invention attached thereto, and Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
In the embodiment selected to illustrate my invention I make use of a conventional flash-light l0 including the usual threaded head l2 for the reception of the threaded part of the mounting for the converging lens usually associated with flash-lights. This lens is not shown since it forms no part of the present invention.
. I provide a tapered member I4 circular in cross-section and provided with a metallic flange l6 about its lower end which flange is riveted to the member at I3. I prefer to make the member I of celluloid having a colored area 20 and a clear area 22. The area 20 is red in color. I ofiset the flange ii at 24 to provide a threaded flange 26 having threaded relation with the head l2.
In Figure 2 the offset 24- presses the flange 23 of the reflector 33 against the end of the head l2. Within the upper end of the member 22 I position a reflector 32 having a cone-shaped part 34 extending the full length of the clear area 22. The other end of-the reflector 32 is tapered at 36 to. conform to the angularity of the member I. I provide a metallic cap 33 which extends over the small end of the member I and is provided with an opening 40 for the reception of a wood screw 42. This screw is anchored in the wooden reflector 32 and the head of the screw lies within a depression I in the top of the cap 33. The tubular part 32 of the reflector is painted white for the purpose of reflecting light areas in the direction of the clear area.
In operation the member I may be connected with the flash-light and employed for signaling purposes. When the bulb 46 is illuminated the area 20 provides a red light which may be used for signaling purposes while the clear area 22 10 gives a white light which may be used for general illumination.
My invention provides a convenient signaling device of a portable nature while the clear area 22 provides illumination for identifying. objects 15 and for reading purposes. The construction is exceedingly simple, light in weight and may be connected with conventional flash-lights.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully explain my invention that others may by 20 appiyingcurrent knowledge readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service.
I claim:
A device of the type described comprising a tubular member of transparent material having 25 means for connection with a flashlight, said tubular member having a colored area and a clear area, the clear area being located at the end of the tubular member remote from the flashlight, and a conically shaped reflector po- 30 sitioned inside the tubular member at the and remote from the flashlight with its apex' pointing in the direction of the flashlight, said reflector being shaped to reflect light rays in the direction of the clear area.
LAWRENCE L. BRAY.
