This invention relates to a package, particularly a bottle which is constructed in a novel manner for convenience of serving the contents thereof.

An object of the invention is to provide a bot- 5 tle for beverages and the like which includes simple and inexpensive means for supporting straws or tubes in a convenient location upon a side or sides of the bottle, the construction being such that the straws or tubes will be frictionally held in position but easily removable for use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a single removable retaining band on an upwardly and inwardly tapering bottle, for the purpose of accessibly mounting tubes or straws upon the bottle wall or walls.

The foregoing and other objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the drawing, 3 indicates a tall bottle having a base 5 and upwardly and inwardly tapering side 30 walls 6. The bottle has the usual neck I which may be provided with any suitable type of closure, for example a cork or cap, or both. At least one of the upwardly tapering walls 6 is provided with a series of longitudinal channels or grooves 8 in which are received the straws or tubes 9, these straws or tubes being adapted to rest upon a shelf or abutment l formed in the material of the bottle near the base thereof. As shown in the drawing, more than one side of the bottle may 40 be provided with grooves and shelves as above described.

In the preferred form, the grooves 8 are made shallow so that the straws or tubes will extend forwardly of the bottle wall, as illustrated by Fig. 2, in order that a label or sticker [2 glued, pasted, or otherwise secured to the bottle wall at each side of the grooves, as at l3, will apply a frictional force to the straws or tubes to normally preclude longitudinal shifting thereof in the direction of the top of the bottle. The sticker or label, which may be a sheet of paper or other suitable material, preferably though not necessarily, covers the shelf portion I0.

Near the upper end of the bottle there is provided an encircling band l4 which is of a proper restricted circumference to preclude its sliding down the tapered bottle walls further than the upper portions of the straws or tubes. Like the label or sheet l2, the band I4 applies a frictional force upon the straws or tubes when the band is tightened about the bottle by moving it down the tapered Walls thereof to the extent indicated in Fig. 1. Preferably, the band M would not be glued or otherwise fixed to the bottle walls, but would rather be held in place by reason of its frictional contact upon the rounded corners of the bottle.

As illustrated in Fig. 3, the straws or tubes 9 may be, and preferably are, contained in a wrapping or sack I5 of cellophane or other translucent protective sheet material. The wrapping or sack may of course be of any other suitable sanitary substance, if desired.

It will be observed that the package of this invention is neat and attractive, and that the removable straws or tubes are readily accessible for use. Moreover, the means for retaining the straws in position is efiective, simple, and inexpensive.

What is claimed is:

1. A package comprising in combination a bottle having sides, a top, and a bottom, the sides tapering upwardly and inwardly from bottom to top, at least one of said sides having a substantially vertical depression formed therein, a pack- 0 et of tubes removably supported in the depression, the depression being sufliciently shallow to support the tube packet partly outside the plane of the side of the bottle while at the same time resisting possible lateral shifting of the tube packet, and tube packet retaining means including a band encircling the bottle near the top thereof, the band being of a restricted circumference to limit sliding movement of the band downwardly over the tapered walls of the bottle while frictionally contacting that portion of the tube packet which extends from the bottle side.

A package comprising in combination a bottle having sides, a top, and a bottom, the sides tapering upwardly and inwardly from bottom 5 to top, at least one of said sides having a substantially vertical depression formed therein, a packet of tubes removably supported in the depression, the depression being sufiiciently shallow to support the tube packet partly outside the plane of the side of the bottle while at the same time resisting possible lateral shifting of the tube packet, and tube packet retaining means including a band encircling the bottle near the top thereof, the band being of a restricted circumference to limit sliding movement of the band downwardly over the tapered walls of the bottle while frictionally contacting that portion of the tube packet which extends from the bottle side, and a shelf in the depression for supporting the lower end of the tube packet.

A package comprising in combination a tall bottle having sides, a top, and a bottom, the sides tapering upwardly and inwardly from bottom to top, at least one of said sides having longitudinal grooves formed therein, a shelf at the bottom ends of the grooves, a plurality of tubes removably supported in the grooves and having their lower ends resting upon the shelf, a memleer for frictionally holding the tubes in position upon the shelf and in the grooves, and a retaining band for the tubes encircling the' bottle near the top thereof, the band being of a restricted circumference to limit sliding movement of the band downwardly over the tapered walls of the bottle.

A package comprising in combination a tall bottle having sides, a top, and a bottom, the sides tapering upwardly and inwardly from bottom to top, at least one of said sides having longitudinal grooves formed therein, a shelf at the bottom ends of the grooves, a plurality of tubes removably supported in the grooves and having their lower ends resting upon the shelf, and a retaining band for the tubes encircling the bottle near the'top thereof, the band being of a restricted circumference to limit sliding movement of the band downwardly over the tapered walls of the bottle.
