Abstract

A glove having a sheath with an inside surface dimensioned to receive a human hand. The sheath is constructed of a material impregnated with a skin lotion. A barrier layer is then disposed around an outside surface of the sheath and this barrier layer is constructed of a material substantially impermeable to the skin lotion. In practice, the gloves are typically worn at night thus moisturizing the user's hands while the barrier layer protects the bed sheet and other clothing from the skin lotion.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

I. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a therapeutic glove.
II. Description of Related Art
There are a number of previously known gloves having hand lotion or other moisturizers contained on the glove for moisturizing and/or applying hand lotion to the user while the user wears the glove. These previously known gloves, however, have not proven wholly satisfactory in use.
One disadvantage of these previously known gloves is that the moisturizer or hand lotion was concentrated at various locations within the interior of the glove. As such, the hand lotion was applied unevenly to the user's hand while the glove was worn.
A still further disadvantage of these previously known gloves is that the moisturizer would seep through the glove and to the outer surface of the glove. Consequently, when the glove would contact another surface, such as a bed sheet, the lotion from the glove would transfer onto that other surface. In many situations, for example if the glove were worn at night, such transfer of the lotion to the other surface is unacceptable.

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

The present invention provides a glove which overcomes all the above-mentioned disadvantages of the previously known devices.
In brief, the glove of the present invention comprises a sheath having an inside dimensioned to receive a human hand. The sheath, of course, may be made in different sizes to accommodate different sizes of human hands.
The sheath is constructed of a material which is impregnated with a skin lotion. Preferably, the sheath is a non-woven material, although woven and other types of materials may alternatively be used.
A barrier layer is disposed around the outer surface of the sheath. This barrier layer is constructed of a material which is substantially impermeable to the skin lotion. As such, the barrier layer maintains the skin lotion on the interior of the sheath and thus in contact with the user's hands.

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially along line 3-3 in FIG. 2 and enlarged for clarity.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

With reference first to FIGS. 1 and 2, a preferred embodiment of the glove 10 of the present invention is shown. The glove 10 comprises a sheath 12 having both an inside surface 14 (FIG. 2) and an outer surface 16 (FIG. 1).
The sheath 12 is dimensioned so that a human hand will fit within the inside 14 of the sheath 12. The sheath 12 may be made in any desirable size in order to accommodate different sizes of hands. Furthermore, although the glove 10 is shown as having fingers, the glove 10 may also be in the form of a mitt.
With reference now particularly to FIGS. 2 and 3, the sheath 12 preferably includes a non-woven fibrous material layer 20 on its inside surface 14. The fibrous layer 20 may be constructed from any desired fibrous material, such as cotton. Preferably, the fibrous material 20 is inexpensive so that the overall glove 10 is disposable after each use.
As best shown in FIG. 3, the fibrous layer 14 is impregnated with a skin lotion and/or skin moisturizer 22. Any conventional skin moisturizer or skin lotion may be used such as aloe vera, lanolin, and other skin moisturizers.
Still referring to FIG. 3, a barrier layer 24 is disposed around the outer surface 16 (FIG. 1) of the glove. This barrier layer 24 is constructed of a material which is substantially impermeable to the skin lotion/moisturizer 22. Preferably, the barrier layer 24 is constructed of a synthetic material, such as latex, polyester, or the like.
The glove 10 of the present invention may be worn at any desired time by the user. However, if the glove 10 is worn by the user at night, the skin lotion/moisturizer 22 contained within the fibrous layer 20 keeps the user's hand in a moisturized condition during the entire night of sleep. Furthermore, during this time, the barrier layer 24 simultaneously prevents the skin moisturizer/lotion 22 from seeping out of the glove 10 and onto the bed linen or bed covering.
From the foregoing, it can be seen that the present invention provides a simple and yet effective moisturizing glove for a user. Furthermore, the glove of the present invention is particularly advantageous for use while sleeping at night.
Having described my invention, however, many modifications thereto will become apparent to those skilled in the art to which it pertains without deviation from the spirit of the invention as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

Claims

1. A glove comprising:

a sheath having an inside dimensioned to receive a human hand,

said sheath being constructed of a material impregnated with a skin lotion,

a barrier layer disposed around an outside surface of said sheath, said barrier layer being constructed of a material substantially impermeable to said skin lotion.

2. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said sheath is constructed of a non-woven material.

3. The invention as defined in claim 2 wherein said sheath is constructed of cotton.

4. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said lotion comprises aloe vera.

5. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said lotion comprises lanolin.

6. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said lotion comprises a moisturizer.

7. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said barrier comprises a synthetic material.

8. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said barrier layer comprises a latex material.

9. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said barrier layer comprises polyethylene.

10. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said sheath comprises cotton.
