This bearing block has one end improvements in clippers employed in cutting of the shaft 19 disposed in a recess thereof, while hair, and more particularly to clippers of the theopposite end of the shaft 19 is disposed into electrically driven type. a recess in the bearing block denoted by numeral The principal object of the present-invention is 20 in Figure 4. 5 to provide barbers shears wherein means is pro- Rotatable on the shaft 19 isthe unit made up vided for gauging the depth of the cutting action. of the gear 21 and the worm 22.
Another important object of the present inven- The armature shaft 12 has an extension 23 tion is to provide automatic means for feeding which is splined in the rear end of the shaft seca comb gradually in a forward direction as the tion 24 which in turn is keyed to the worm 25. j in clipper is moved upwardly along the head so that As is clearly shown in Figure 5, a second gear the clipper will cut to a lesser depth gradually as and worm unit consists of the gear 26 and the it moves upwardly. worm 27. The gear 26 meshes with the worm 28 These and various other important objects and on the shaft section 24, while the worm 2'7 meshes advantages of the invention will become apparent with the gear 21.

Numeral 58 represents the slidable switch button for controlling the contactor 9 with respect to the contact 60.
It can now be seen that when the button 52 is forced inwardly, the barrel 49 will move with the same and around the lug 51 to engage into the worm 22. This pushing of the button 52 is generally done just as the clipper is started up the back of the head-and as the motor rotatesthe shaft 24, the speed thereof is reduced through the gears 26-27 so that the worm 22 turns relatively slowly and causes a correspondingly slow motion of the arm 48 which in turn slowly moves the comb 44 outwardly of the forward end of the shell. Thus the clipper blades are gradually fed away from the head as the clipper rides upwardly.-
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. U
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a barbers shears comprising a motor, cut- 7 said worm, said manual means consisting of a pushbutton provided with a stem, said rockable member consisting of a barrel rotatable on the stem and provided with an arm engageable with the comb shank, said barrel being provided with a leg having a lug, said button being adapted to shift the barrel so that the lug will engage'into the said worm.
