This invention relates to containers and more particularly to a dispensing type of container.

One of the objects of the invention is to 5 provide a container of simple construction which will serve not only as a shipping packfor the articles therein, but also as a dispensing or vending container on the counter of the retail merchant. Another object is to provide a container in which the articles for sale are supported in an attractive manner and within the vision. of the customer, while at the same time the articles are rendered accessible, one at a time, to the customer. Another object is to provide simple and effective means by which a container may be adjusted to provide a dispensing aperture through which articles may be singly with drawn. Other objects and advantages will 20 appear as the specification proceeds.

,The invention is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a View in elevation of a container embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is asimilar view of the outer container, the top,

In the illustration given 1 designates an outer box which is preferably rectangular in shape and is provided with open ends. The

40 front side of the box 2 is preferably cutaway at 3 to provide a window. A. flap or latch element 4 is provided at the upper end of the window by creasing along the line 5.

If desired, the outer side may be out along f the side line 5 so that the flap or latch element 4 may be turned inwardly for purposes hereafter described. Y

The inner box 6 is also preferably rectan gular in shape and is adapted to be received within the box 1. Box6 is provided with sides ,7. and ends 8. The front side of the container 6 is left open, so that when box 6 is inserted withinbox 1, the ,window'3 may be just above the open side of box 6. This will rendenthe articles within container 6 readily visible through :the window. The sides 7 adjacent the front side'of the box are cut away at 9 to provide access to articles which are toIlbe sold.

As shown more clearly in Fig. 5, the latch if element 4 is so positioned on the outer box 1 that when the entire container is placed on end and the flap 4 engagesthe top end of the inner box, the lower end or bottom. of the-outer box 1 will beisupported at a certain distance above the, bottom end of the container 6. This distance is; preferably slightly. greater than the diameter of the article to be sold. 1

A cap or cover 10, as shown inFig. 1, may be employed to cover window 3 and tohold the box6 securely within container 1 during shipment.

"In operation the inner box 6 may be filled with articles,- as for example, candy in cylindrical rolls, and the box inserted in the outer container 1, preferably through the end adjacent the flap 4.. In this operation, the flap or latch 4 ratchets over the cylindrical articles and. permits the inner box 6 to be i easily passed into container 1. The cover 10 may then be placed over the front side of container 1 and, the package is ready for r shipment. The retailmerchant, upon receipt of the box, removes the cover 10, stands the box onend withthe end of the box adjacent to latch element 4 at the top. The inner con 'tainer 6 his then pushed downwardly until the top end thereof passes below the flap or latch element 4, thus permitting the latch 4 to swing inwardly and to restlightly upon the top end of box 6. The container 1 is then pressed down until the latch or flap 4; securely engages the upper end of container 6 so as to support the container 1 in raised position. In its raised position, the lower end of container 1 provides an aperture between it and the bottom of box 6 which will permit the discharge singly of the'cylindrical articles to be sold. The cutaway segmentsat 9 permit the purchaser to grasp the roll.

lVith the construction described, the inner box 6 may be introduced in outer box 1 with its back side adjacent the front side of-container 1, thus closing the window therein. With this arrangement the two boxes form a container completely closed and suitable for shipping.

While I have shown the flap or latch element 4 at the front side of container 1, where it is formed from a portion of the material cut away to provide a window, it is obviously .within the spirit of my invention to provide flaps or latch elements on any one of the other sides of the container to serve the same purpose. It is also within the scope of my invention to provide boxes in different shapes and in different forms which will operate in the manner whichI have described in connection with a pair of. rectangular telescoping boxes. It is also obvious that'equivalent latching mean'smay besubstituted for the particular means disclosed-without departure from the spirit of my invention.

To prevent the candy rolls from rolling out, a stop strip 11 may be secured by stapling, or other suitable means, to the bottom end of box 6. 3 c 1 The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible in view of the prior art.

I claim: r

1. In a device of the character set forth, an inner container provided with an open side, an outer container having a window in one side adapted to register with the open side of said inner container, and a flap formed from a portion of theside removed to provide said window, said flap being adapted to engage. the top end of said inner. container to support it in raised position so that a dispensin aperture is provided be tween the lower ends of said containers. f
