Description

Au 18, 1931. 1. 11mm 1,819,521
-. 1 .111 Puntrma Filed July 15. 1927 Patented Aug. 18, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HUBER H. ROOT, OF
MEDINA, OHIO, -ASSIGNOIR. TO THE A. I. ROOT COMPANY, OF MEDINA, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO AIR PURIFIER Application filed July 15, 1927. Serial No. 206,059.
The object of my invention is to provide means for the sanitation or purification of washrooms, toilets, and other laces by the treatment of the air thereof y apparatus which will combine maximum efliciency in its deodorizing and other beneficial eifects on the air, simplicity of parts and readiness of application to a bowl, especially as an attachment, so that no alteration of the original condition of the structure or parts will be necessary, and no special skill in making or applying the attachment will be called for.
My invention consists in whatever is described by or is included within the terms or scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating an embodiment of my invention showing it installed;
Fig. 2 is a like view of another embodiment.
Briefly'descri'bing the embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings it comprises piping having an inlet and an outlet for air to be treated and a motor driven pneumatic device in the piping between inlet and outlet that will cause the flow into and through-the piping of the air to be treated, and a gas absorbing device at or near the outlet through which the objectionable air will be passed and deodorized or disinfected. so that it is delivered back into the room. in a purified or sanitary and inofi'ensive condition, and the piping and air moving mechanism are so relatively arranged that they will be located at the back of the fixture so as to be largely concealed and protected thereby, and so as not in any way to interfere with the use of the fixture or the movement of the movable parts thereof. such as tops or covers.
Describing in detail what is shown in the drawings, the piping comprises a flattened inlet section, 10, that is applied between the top of the bowl at the rear so as to lie freely beneath the closed cover with its mouth directly toward the interior of the bowl and having at each side two books. 11, of readily bendable wire which catch over the marginal rim of the bowl so as not only to secure the inlet portion of the pipe in place but by reason of the weight of the other parts and their location at the rear of the bowl will adequately support the entire attachment so that no screws or bolts or other attaching means are employed. 'lhe'hooks are readily bendable wire or material, so that they may be made to conform to rims that will vary in shape or contour. The inlet section 10 at its rear is round for connection with the round induction pipe 12 of a rotary electric fan'or blower 13 whose outlet pipe 14 extends at right angles so that it will lie in rear of the fixture and to which one end of a preferably downwardly extending pipe section 15 (which may be a piece of flexible hose) is connected, to the opposite end of which may be attached the casing 16 of some disinfectant or gas absorber, such for ex ample, as charcoal, such casing having an outlet for the disinfected or purified or deodorized air, or, as shown in Fig. 2 said de' odorizer or purifier 160 may be placed between the inlet 100 and the suction device 130 this-arrangement having the advantage that if there is any leakage about the suction device or at the point beyond the deodorizer there would be no contamination of the air of the room because air already would have passed through the deodorizer or purifier.
hat I claim is:
1. In combination. a bowl of the class described, an air purifying and deodorizing unit associated with the bowl and arranged to draw air therefrom, said unit comprising, a casing. a motor and fan. and an air purifying and. deodorizing medium housed in the casing. said medium being disposed in the pat-h of air induced by the operation of the motor and fan, there being means supporting the unit entirely from the bowl.
2. The combination stated in claim 1, wherein said means comprises a device associated with said .unit arranged to hook onto the rim of the bowl, where-b1. none of the parts of the bowl have to be altered in the installation of the unit in operative relation to such bowl.
