IMPROVEMENT lN SLATES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l S [,653, dated August 29, 1876; application filed July 6, 1876.

To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, NAPOLEON DU BRUL, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Slates, of which the following is a specification:

This invention relates to a school or writing slate having a solid frame; and it consists in forming the letters of the alphabet in the face of said frame in depressed characin intaglio, so that the washin g or wear of the frame shall not obliterate the inscription.

I am aware that a slate-frame has heretofore been made with indentations on its surface to form a scale to indicate length. This, therefore, I do not claim but What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As a new article of manufacture, a slate having a solid frame, with the letters of the alphabet in the face of said frame in depress characters, to form a permanent and correct copy for the user of the slate, as herein set forth.
