Description
Patented Oct. 28, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH ID. IMCNU'.!.T, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR, BY HESNE ASSIGN- MENTS, T0 WINCHESTER REIEATING ARMS 00., OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A-
CORPORATION OF DELAWARE PBIMING MIXTURE R0 Drawing.
My invention relates to an improvement in priming mixtures, the object being to produce a priming mixtureof such a character that it will leave no corrosive residuum to act on the material of the barrel of the firearm in which it is used, and which will not deteriorate in storage.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in a priming mixture comprising a metallic nitrate, a metallic sulfid, a metallic fulminate, an organic nitro derivative and a chemically-basic stabilizing agent.
In carrying out my invention, I employ the above-named ingredients in substantially the following proportions, dependent upon the specific use to be made of the mixture:
47 5 parts of mercury fulminate, carrying 16% water; 240 parts of barium nitrate; 255 parts of antimony sulfid; 30 parts of trinitrotoluene; and to 2 parts of diphenylamin or calcium carbonate.
In proceeding to make the mixture, the barium nitrate and the di henylamin are intimatel mixed. The required quantity of barium nitrate and stabilizer so mixed is then weighed out, together with the required quantity of antimony sulfid, and these are mixed in any convenient manner. A small amount of a solution of gum in water is now incorporated with the mixture; the required quantities of mercury fulminate and trinitrotoluol are added thereto; and the whole is thoroughly mixed together. The resultant mixture is then ready for immediate use in the manufacture of primers.
I claim:
1. A composition for initial igniters, comprising mercury fulminate, barium nitrate, antimony sulfid, trinitroluene and diphenylamin.
2. A composition for initial igniters, comprising 47 5 parts of mercury fulminate carrying 16% water, 240 parts barium nitrate, 255 parts antimony sulfid, 30 parts trinitrotoluene and to 2 parts of a chemicallybasic stabilizin agent.
3. A composition for initial igniters comprising 47 5 parts of mercury fulminate carrying 16 percent of water, 240 parts barium Application filed March 31, 19 7. serial 10. 150,080.
trinitrotoluene and to 2 parts diphenylamin.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
