In order to hold the panels elevated, the latter are rovided at their up er edges with shoulders 63. It will be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings that when one of the bars 56 is depressed, a circuit will beclosed through the motor '46 and through the barred'closure 37. In addition, the windows 17 may be closed by metal grills or screens 74 and these grills gor' screens may be connected in circuit with the'hi'gh tension coil 40 through the conductors' 75. The window screens-or grills may be suitably grounded as indicated at 76 so as to provide for a return of current.
- Theentrance'16 may be provided with a vestibule 77 and the outer end of this'vestib'ule may be provided with swinging doors vided with swinging doors 79 which as shown in Figures 1 and 6 of the drawings areadapted to be swung in opposite direcfrom which extends tangentially tions. To provide for this, the vestibule at its inner end is provided with a 0st isposed ribs 81 with which the doors 79 are adapted to engage. Normally, the post 80 which is rotatable, is positioned as shown in Figures 1 and 6 of the drawin s so that one door will open outwardly and the other inwardly. Offset stops 82 are provided adjacent the post 80 so as to limit outward swinging movement of one door and inward swinging movement of the other door, whereby, when the post 80 is rotated in a clockwise direction in Figure 6 of the drawings, the ribs 81 will engage upon the side ed es of the door opposite the stops 82 and hold the doors closed.
To acomplish the foregoin the invention provides an operating mec ianism which is housed within a compartment 83 positioned above the vestibule. The post 80 extends into this compartment and is rovided with a rcctan ular extremity 84 w iich is engaged by the orkedend 85 of a slide rod 86. A spring 87 acts to resist slidin f7 movement of this rod in one direction and yieldingly holds the fork 85 engaged with the post.
Positioned within the compartment 83 is a bell crank lever 88. This lever is pivotally mounted as shown at 89 and has one of its arms extendingthrough the housing of the compartment 83 and provided with a depending portion 90 to enga 'e one of the doors 79. The other door (9 which is adapted to swing inward is engaged by a finger 90' which projects through an areaate opening 91 provided in the housing of the compartment 83 so that this finger extends into the vestibule to en 'age the door 79. The finger 90' is carried by an arm 92 which is pivotally mounted within the compartment 83 as shown at 93, and when this arm is moved to the left in Figure 7 of the drawings, the inwardly swinging door 79 will be closed against its stop 82 and when the bell crank lever 88 is swung inward, the outwardly swinging door 79 will be moved against its stop 82.
In order to effect this movement, the bell crank le"er 88 and arm 92 are connected to an even-er 94 by means of flexible connections 95, the latter passing around guide pulleys 96 and being provided with extensible sections 97 to compensate for difference in movement. The evener 94 is guided upon the rods 98 and is yieldingly held against movement in one direction y springs99. A cable 100 is connected to the evener and passes around guide pulleys 101 and' is adapted to be wound u on a drum 102 WhlCh is mounted upon the s aft 72; Thus, when the motor 46 1s energized to rotate the shaft 36, the shaft 72 will be likewise'rotatedto exert a pull upon the cable 100 and move the v doors 79 to closed position as previously described.
The slide bar 86 has connected thereto one end of a flexible member 103 which passes around a guide pulley carried by the evener 94 and has its opposite end connected to an arm'104 .which is rigid with the 0st 80. The flexible member 103 is sufciently slack to permit the doors 7 9 to reach a closed position before the slide bar 86 is disengaged from the post. As soon as disengagement occurs however the flexible member 103 will swing the arm 104 ninety degrees and position the ribs 81 upon the opposite edges of the door 7 9 as previously mentioned. A spring 105 returns the ribs to the position shown in Fi re 6 when tension on the cable 100 is relieved, a. stop 106 limiting movement of the arm 104 in one direction.
As rotation of the shaft 72 is controlled by the operation of the motor 46, the doors 79 will be'closed simultaneousl with the operation of the protecting device, so that persons upon the customers side of the' counter will be prevented from leaving through the doors, while the window 17 will be protected by the high tension current passing throu h the screens 74.
The invention is susceptible of various chan es in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properlyfall within the scope of t e appended claims. 4
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
