My invention relates primarily to devices used in the art of advertising, but may be also utilized for any purpose wherein amount spaced from its supporting element may be desired.

The object of my invention is to provide a device of the character herein described, which may be easily and quickly assembled and may be used interchangeably with separate and selective mounts, the base or body member being of a somewhat permanent character which may be preserved and used for a considerable length of time with mounts of varying originality and design following the developments ofthe art to which they may be applied as advertising mediums.

My invention consists of certain details of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which are hereunto annexed and are a part of this specification in which:

Fig. 1 is an assembled view of my invention;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing how the spacing member is secured to the back of the mount, also showing fastening means for securing the same to the baseor body member of my device;

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through theline 3- 3 in Fig. 1; and

Fig. 4 is a front view of the b'ase or body member of my device showing the slots through which the fastening means of the detachable mount may pass.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, the reference numeral 10 is used to indicate the base, or body, member of my device, which I provide, preferably, with the slots 11 and 12. The numeral 13 indicates the mount which is usually of card board, or some equivalent or desirable material, cut to form a figure of that which the advertiser uses in ,his business. In the drawing, 'the mount is out to form the figure of the upper portion of a man dressed in the manner shown but, obviously, the cut out gure may represent anything desired. On the backof the mount, its edges not extending to the edge outline of the mount, I have secured a spacing memberll, which is designed to be also secured to the body'portionlO. This arrangement causes the mount to be securely fastened (by any desirable means) to vthe base, and to stand out therefrom, and light, whether natural or artificial, will cast a deep shadow on one side, at least, of the mount. This has proven to be very unique and attractive, and supplies the wants and needs of the advertiser for it has great utility in attracting the eye of, and pleasing to, the passer-by.

When I use detachable mounts such as shown in'my drawing, I secure fasteners, 15 and v16, to the spacing member 14, and these fasteners pass through their respective orifices, or slots, 11 and 12, and are bent to flatten against the back of the body portion 10.

In constructing out-door signs, I usually employ wood, steel or other equivalent material, for the parts, and more staple fastening means are also used, but such construction in no sense departs from my invention the principal features of which are comprised of the basey or body portion, the mount and the spacing member which does not extend to the edge of the mount, with satisfactory means of securing these three elements in proper corelated and spaced relation. i,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

.A mounting for advertising plaques to be used with an articial light, comprising a body portion with slots therein, a detachable mount cut into a desired conformation, a spacing member secured to the back of the mount, and cut to conform to the shape of the mount but reduced in size therefrom, means to'detachably secure said mount to the body port-ion, said means comprising fasteners se cured to the spacing member and adapted to pass through the slots for fastening the mount ydetaehably to the body portion.
