especially to foldable nesting boxes, containers or the like.

In the manufacture of boxes, containers or the .like of the foldable styles, wherein the articles to be held thereby will be nested in compartments or pockets, the cost for production is extremely high, due to the fact that this particular box, container or the like in the making demands considerable material and various independent operations, as the interior nest requires separate units and their formation with accuracy, and likewise the body requires various parts and the folding of the same for the inter-fitting of both nest and body during assemblage in the setting up of the box or container for use.

It is the aim of the present invention to construct a box, container or the like, wherein its body and nestcan be made from a single piece of material and in a single operation, thereby bringing the cost of production to a minimum and without any waste of material in the production of the same.

Another aim of the invention is to have the box, containeror the like when in set up condition with a plurality of compartments or pockets for the reception of goods therein singly in the respective compartments or pockets, thus protecting the goods from con tact with each other and without liability of said goods falling out of the respective compartments or pockets on the-opening of the lid or cover, as the compartments will be permanently walled at all sides of the box,

container or the like when said lid or cover is raised to open position.

A. further aim of the present invention is to provide a box, container orthe like with reinforced walls in the body of the same, and the said body and nest within the latter a unitary structure, thereby materially strengthening said box, container or the like and the said nest serving to maintain the body of the box in set up condition.

goods being readily accessible on the opening of the box, container or the like.

lVith these and other objects in View the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts I container 'or the like constructed in accordance with the invention showing its lid or cover in raised position.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the box, container or the like'is preferably made from a single piece of material such as card board or other fibrous semi-rigid kind, yet it may be made from any desirable material cut and folded to provide a body A, interior nest B and a swinging lid or cover C, these being hereinafter more fully described.

The body A comprises a bottom 10, front and rear walls 11 and 12 respectively and end walls 13, which walls are foldable along weakened or creased lines 14 and 15 respectively. At opposite ends of the front wall 11 are extensions 16, these being foldable along weakened or creased lines 17 and are adapted to coincide with and lie against the inner faces of the end walls 13 and be maintained in such position by retaining flaps 18, these being extended from the end walls 13 and are foldable along weakened or creased lines 19. The retaining flaps 18 are folded inwardly and downwardly on the weakened or creased lines 19 to overlie the extensions 16 which will be disposed between the end walls 13 and said flaps 18 and in this manner interfitted therewith. It will be seen that the end walls 13 will be materially reinforced in are formed with weakened or creased lines 21fitransversely disposed of the same and spaced the required distance'from the rear extremities of the end walls 13 so that on the folding of the partitions 20. upon the weakened or creased lines 21, the said partitions will be disposed in spaced parallel relation to each other and extending from the front wall 11 to the rear wall 12 of the body A with the portions 22 of'said partitions located in confronting relation 'to the rear wall 12, as is clearly illustrated in Figure l of'the drawing.

-'The partitions 20 are formed with sllts 23 located medially with respect to the length of said partitions and opening through the upper edges thereof. Said slits 23 extend only partially the depth of the partitions 20 for the interlocking with said partitions of a v divider or separator strip 24, the latter being formed with a pair of spaced slits 25 which extend only partially through the same and open through the bottom edge thereof. This strip 24 is engaged with the partitions 20 by registering the slits 25 with the slits 23 formed in said strip and partitions respectively, and on depressing the strip 24 the same can be interlocked with the partitions 20 and in the interlocked engagement thereof there will be presented at the interior of the body A a series or group of separate compartments or pockets 26 to receive articles and hold the same confined singly therein.

whereby the. said tongue may be tucked between the frontwall 11 of the body A and the nest B within the latter and thus maintain the lid or cover section in closed position, the tongue 29 being frictionally held en= gaged between the front Wall 11 of the body A and thenest B within the latter,

It will be obvious from'Figure 2 of the drawing that the body-A and portions of the nest B will be formed from a single piece of material capable of being stamped and cut therefrom in a single operation, as the strip 24 in the blank or single piece occupies the space next to either partition 20, its portion 21 and the flap 18, without any waste of material, and the nest B in its maj or portion is a continuation or unitary part of the body A, the onl independent or separate part of such nest eing the strip 24., In the formation of the nest B within the body A, the latter will be maintained securely set up, and likewise the nest, ,and goods or articles placed within the compartments or, pockets 26 constituted by the nest will be separated from each other to avoid contact, and will be firmly confined to assure safety in shipment and also to eliminate"displacement of the articles or goods or the falling of the same from the body .A when the lid 1s open.
