UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLOSING (SEALING) 0F BOTTLES.
Applicatibn filed June 22, 1928, Serial No. 287,389, and in the Netherlands June 30, 1927.
The invention relates to a well-known kind of bottle closing, wherein both the inside and the outside part of the bottle neck are provided with a thread, to the outside thread of which the sealing cap is screwed.
According to the invention, a stopper of soft metal is screwed into the neck of the bot-' 7 hand fits air-tight into the stopper of soft material. By unscrewing the cap from the bottle, the latter is therefore immediately ready for use. It is not necessary, that washers of any kind should be inserted between the flanges of the stopper and the upper rim of the bottle; itis an advantage, however, if
a cork ring is inserted between these two parts, so asto produce a springy connection between stopper and bottle neck.
The embodiment of the subject of the in vention is shewn in the drawing.
Neck 1 of bottle 2 is provided inside and outside with; a thread. Inside the neck is screwed a stopper 3 of soft metal, for example lead, whilst between the flanges 4 of stopper 3 and the upper rim of the neck is arranged a ring 5, for example of cork. In stopper 3 is a central, conical opening 6, into Wl'llCh fits the cone 7 with a rounded point, arranged inside the cap 8, when this cap 8 is screwed on the outside of neck 1.
In the embodiment as shewn by way of an example in the drawing, the cap 8 is shown to possess double walls. This however, is not an essential feature, and serves merely to give the cap a better appearance, without increasing its weight.
\Vhat I claim is 1. In a bottle closure, a bottle having its neck exteriorly screw threaded, a stopper of soft material in the neck and having a conical opening therein, and a cap screwing on the bottleneck and having a conical projection extending into the conical opening of the stopper.
2. In a bottle closure, a bottle having its neck internally and externally screw threaded, tin-externally threaded stopper of soft metal screwed into the neck of the bottle and having a conical opening, and an internally screw threaded cap screwed into the neck of the bottle and having a conical projection extending into the conical opening of the stopper.
3. In a bottle closure, a bottle having its neck internally and externally screw threaded, an externally screw threaded stopper of soft material screwed into the neck of the bottie and having a conical opening, and an internally screw threaded cap screwed into the bottle neck, said cap having double walls and provided on its inner wall with a conical projection extending into the conical opening of the stopper.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
JOANNES MARIA BERNARDUS VAN VLIJMEN.
