The invention relates to afgarmen t supporter, and in some of i tsaspects to afh'ose sup- M rter which is fastened to, and supported From, acorset or otherundergarment.
Objects and advantages of the invention will be set'forthlin pant hereinafter andin part will obvious herefrom,- or may be llearnedby practice with the mventlon, the same being realized and attained by means of the'instrumentalities and combinations pointfl'hefaccompanyingdrawings, referred to herein constituting a art hereof, illustrate one embodiment oft 1e invention, and together with the description, serve to explain the princi les of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation of a garment supporter embodying the invention; M
Fig. 2'isran elevation'looking at Fig. 1 from the right, with a portion of the hose supportin device omitted;
Tlig. 3 is a detached elevation'of the main portion of the buckle;
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3; i v
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the fastening device for the web end;
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary elevation showing the web end fastened to the buckle; and
Fig. 7 is a central section through Fig. 6 on the line 7-7.
p l The invention is directed among other objects, to providing a hosesupporter which is fiat and unobtruslve and without projections which show through the outer garments, while providing a simple and sturdy supporter; one
which is simple and inexpensive and easy to manufacture while holding the garment firmly. The invention is directed also to a method for making such a garment supporter.
Referring now in detail to the present pre ferred form of the invention, illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, a web strip 1, which may be of the usual character, is connected at its upper. end (broken away in the drawings) to the corset or other garment. The buckle comprisesa plate 2 which is provided with a plurality of slots 3 and 4 through which the web 1 is threaded. Plate 2 is preferably curved or bent to present the edge of the metal against the web at the end of the bucklefland'.atthe' slots, as best shown'in Fig. 7., this construction serving, to increase the holding el'i'ect, on the web. The edges of the buckle and also the slots are also preferably incline-d from the sides of the buckle toward the center thereof,
for the'same purpose, as best appearsfrom Figs. 1, 8 and 6.
[In t'he completed article, the web preferably passes from the; rear of the plate .2
through the top slot 3, along the face of the plate '2 and then inwardly and downwardly through the slot 4, the lower portionof the web forming loop 5, which holds the ring 6 of the hose supporter.
The hose engaging device maybe of any known or suitable form, and as shown comprises a relatively broad and flat linkZpassing through the link 6 and through the upper portion'8 of the metal link member :9v of the Y hose supporter. Cooperating with the l foregoing members ofthe hose supporterisa flexible strip 10, to the lower end of which is fixed thebutton 11, which cooperates with thelower part of link '9 to hold the stockings. As:
stated, these parts may be of any suitable or desirable form. The web 1 extends upwardly from the loop 5, as shown at 15, and the end of the web is fastened to the back of the buckle at 16, preferably in the manner hereinafter described. v
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the means for fastening the end of the web to the buckle comprises a member fixed to the buckle and firmly pressing and holding the web end between said member and the back of the plate 2 of the buckle. The mem her 17 is a relatively narrow strip disposed transversely of the plate 2, having at either end, ears 18 and 19, which are adaptedto fit into recesses 20 and 21, respectively, formed in the side edges of the buckle. These ends are clinched over the inner edges of the recesses 20 and 21, so that the strip 17 is firmly held in position and clamps the web end securely against the back of the plate 2.
In the preferred form, additional holding means are provided, and for this purpose a projection is formed on the buckle, engaging the web, and preferably a relatively narrow and long, transversely-disposed, struck-up or bulged portion 24 is formed in the face of buckle. The strip 17 is also preferably provided with a complementary bulge :25, as shown in Figs. 5 and 7, whereby the web end is more firmly held, due to the resilient or compressible nature of the web, the curved form of the two holding members and the shape and disposition of the edges of the strip 17, as will be best seen from Fig. 7.
In the preferred form further, the plate 2 is curved so as to present edges adapted to engage and press against the web 1, both at the top and bottom edges of the plate, and also along the edges of the slots 3 and 1. The slots 3 and a are also preferably of bent or angled form, and are inclined from each end inwardly toward the central part of the plate 2. a
In the preferred manner of making the garment supporter, the end of the web and the strip 17 are placed in position on the back of the plate 2, the strip and web are pressed against the plate, and the two cars are clinched about the inside edges of the re cesses 20 and 21. The holding bulge 2st in plate 2 may be formed during this ope 'ation or prior thereto, as desired, and the curving or bulging of strip 17 may also be effected in either manner, as may be found most advantageous or convenient.
The invention in its broader aspects is not limited to the specific mechanisms shown and described but departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the accompanying claims without departing from the principles of the invention and without sacrificing its chief advantages.
What I claim is 1. In a garn'ient supporter including a supporting web, a buckle comprising a plate having slots therein through which the running portion of the web passes, and fastening means for the fixed end of the web comprising a backwardly bulged portion formed in the plate and a member on the back of the plate for clamping said web firmly between said bulge and said member.
2. Ina garment supporter including a supporting web, a buckle comprising a plate having slots therein through which the web passes, and fastening means for the fixed end of the web con'iprising a melnber on the back of the plate having a bulged portion for clamping said web against said plate.
3. In a. garment supporter a buckle com prising a plate having slots therein through which the running portion of the web passes, means for permanently fastening the fixed end of the web to the buckle comprising a central member on the buckle bulged backwardly, a bulged fastening member cooperating therewith to clamp the fixed end of the web to the buckle, and means for permanently fixing said fastening member to the buckle.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
DAVID M. STIRTON.
