This invention relates to improvements in putting greens, and has particular reference to a portable device for both in-and-outdoor uses.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive device of a construction simulating that of a natural put-ting green so as to enable a player to ractice putting under conditions approachnig those which are encountered in regular p Aynother object is to protect the putting i surface of the device by providing the same with a base and cover which will prevent l5 said surface from being efectedby moisture when the device is in` use outdoors.

The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.

`Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a flexible memberwhich forms the body of the putting green and which may be of any desired dimensions. Said member may be a piece of carpet or other similar material and preferably has a pile 6 thereon constituting the putting surface of the member. A

base 7 of rubberized fabric or other suitable waterproof material is secured in any preferred manner to the under surface of the member 5 and is of the same area as said member so that when the device is laid out upon the ground the member 5 and its putting surface will be protected from coming in direct contact with any moisture in the round. The edges of the member 5 and ase 7 are held together and protected by a marginal frame 8 of channel formation. An additional protective means for the device is a flexible waterproof cover 9 secured along one edge 10 to one side of the l5 frame 8 so that the cover will be permanently attached to the device and capable of be- 1927. ing spread over the entire putting surface ly fitted therein a collapsible cup 13, the upper end of which is disposed in a plane with the putting surface of the member 5. The sections of the cup are telescopically arranged so that the cup may be collapsed to a'depth substantially equal to the combined thickness .of the members 5 andj 7, as shown in Figure 3, whereby the device may be spread upon a flat surface, as when used indoors; or said sections of the cup may be extended, as indicated in Figure 2. and when in such extended positions, be projected into an opening 14 made in the ground when the device is being used outdoors. When the green is not in use the cover 9 will also extend over the cup 13 and protect the same.

During its outdoor use the device may be secured in `position by suitable fastening means such as staples 15 each of which is rovided with different length Shanks, the onger of which is adapted to be projected through the outer edges of the members 5 V and 7 and the frame 8 and from thence into the ground, the shorter shank of the fastener being also extended into the ground, as indicated in Figure 2. The staples 15 may also be utilized to secure the cover 9 in covering position, as shown in said figure.

What is claimedis.

1. In a portable put-ting green, a flexible member having a putting surface and provided with an opening, and a collapsible cup mounted in said opening and capable of extension below said member and into a hole in the ground beneath said opening.

2. In a portable putting green, a flexible member having a. putting surface and provided with an opening, a base for said member of waterproof material also having an opening aligned with the first named opening, a frame securing together the outer edges of said member and base, and a collapsible cup mounted in said aligned openings and capable of extension below said base and into a hole in the ground beneath said openings.

3. In a portable putting green, a flexible member having a putting surface and provided With an opening, a base for said member of waterproof material also having an opening aligned with the first named o emng, a frame securing together the outer e ges of said member and base, a cover secured to said frame and capable of being s read over said putting surface, a collapsi le cup mounted in said aligned openings and capable of extension below said base and into a hole in the ground beneath said openings, and securing means projectin through said frame, flexible member an base for afixing the device to a supporting surface. l

4. In a portable putting green, a flexible member having a puttin surface and provided with an opening, a ase for said member of waterproof material also having an opening aligned with the first named opening, a frame securing to ether the outer edges of said member an base, a flexible waterproof cover for said utting surface secured to one edge of said rame and'capable of bein rolled to uncover said surface, and a col apsible cup mounted in said aligned openings and capable of extension below said base and into a hole in the ground beneath said openings.
