My present invention relates generally to compartment plates or platters and more particularly to that type of serving plate in which provision is made to hold ferent articles for instance vegetables and the like, and my primary object is the provision of such a plate or platter which will not only be strong and durable but which lends itself to ready manufacture from various materials such as metal, china and glass but may be formed with Compartments of suflicient depth to effectively re` ceive and retain full portions of the articles to be served therein.

Various types of compartment plates and platters have been before proposedand found objectionable in practical use for various reasons, one of which is its susceptbility to ready breakage unless formcd of metal, difliculty of metallic formation, difficulty of forming sufliciently deep Compartments to hold full portions of the articles to be served, and a lack of that sightly appearance which must necessarily be preserved in articles of this nature for the service of foodstuflfs.

My invention aims to provide a Construction which will enable the formaton of a strong and durable plate or platter whether of glass, china or metal, and particularly a Construction by virtue of which sufiiciently deep compartments can be created without sacrificing strength durability and general si htliness.

Referring now to these figures my invention proposes a generally rectangular plate or platter whose base 10 has a continuous surrounding and upstanding wall 11 provided at its upper edge with a continuous surrounding and outstanding flange 12, the

several dif continuity of the wall 11 and fiange 12 cooperating with the general form and shape in lending maximum stren h and rigidity thereto and resisting brea age as well as any tendency to warp.

Centrally of the base 10, the plate or platter has an upstanding circular wall 13 defining therein a circular comnodity receiving space 14, the latter of which is comparatively shallow with respect to the several compartments 15, 16, 17 and 18 formed between radial ribs 19 extending from the circular central wall 13 to the surrounding wall 11, as will be plainly seen by reference to Figure 2.

`By thus forming the plate with a central circular wall and ribs dividing the several compartments and radiating from the central wall to the surroundingor marginal wall, I have succeeded in sufficiently strengthcning and stiiening the plate or platter to resist all tendenoy toward warping or other distortion as well as toward' ready breakage and I have at the same time provided for a series of compartments 15, 16, 17 and 18 which may be of suflicient depth to receive and hold full portions of articles to be served therein. The remaining and circular compartment or space 14 within the circular wall 13 may be comparatively shallow to receive and hold relishes, butter and the like, and it is obvous from this description and an inspection of the drawing that my invention attains the foregoing advantages without sacrificing appearance.

I claim:

A plate or platter of generally rectangular form `having a continuous upstanding marginal wall and a continuous outstanding flange therearound at the upper edgeof the said marginal wall, a circular wall upstancling centrally of the plate or platter, forming a compartment therein, and a plurality of ribs radiating from the said central circular wall to the marginal wall and forming therebetween a pluralty of Compartments around the said central compartment.
