I L. A. DOURSON HOSE NOZZLE HANGER Filed Aug. 2. 1924 A 7 TOR/YE).
Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS A. DOURSON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN OIL PUMP & TANK CO., 015 CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
HOSE-NOZZLE HANGER.
Application filed August 2, 1924. Serial No. 729,794.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS A. DoURsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Nozzle Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to gasoline measuring pumps, and particularly to hose nozzle hangers for same.
Measuring pumps for dispensing gasoline, oil and the like are generally provided with a hose and nozzle for same, so that liquid may be delivered directly into the tank or other container of the automobile, or wherever desired, Without being drawn first into a measuring vessel and then poured into the receptacle to which it is to be delivered. It is now common practice to provide a fork or notched plate secured to any convenient structure, as a pump housing on curb pumps or an adjacent wall on inside pumps. The nozzles are simply turned upside down, and are therefore ready to catch dust, or in the case of outdoor pumps rain,
or may have pebbles or the like thrown into them by mischievous boys. As so constructed they must be taken down at ni ht or with some enclosed pumps may be locked inside the casing at night.
One object of my invention is to provide a hose hanger with an enclosure to pro tect and shield the end of the nozzle. During hours of use the hose nozzle may be readily removed and hung up again at will.
Another object of my invention is to provide means for locking the nozzle in position within the enclosure so that it may not be removed until unlocked.
In the particular embodiment of my invention selected for illustration.
Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved hanger with a nozzle locked in position in it, the hose coupling and a piece of the hose being shown,
Figure 2 is a vertical centralsection thru the hanger from front to back with the nozzle in position within it.
Referring now to the drawings, A is the nozzle housing, provided with bosses a, having holes a to afford means of readily securing the device by bolts or screws to the pump housing or any other convenient object to which it is desired to attach the device. The casing has a top a which protects the mouth of the nozzle N from rain, dust and the like, and also an overhanging front edge a which restricts the tipping forward of the nozzle. Projecting ledge a with a central drain opening (a is so placed as to be in position to have the hook n of the nozzle placed over it, thus supporting the nozzle and hose. On either side of the housing near the bottom is a projecting lug a. with a hole a thru which is passed a bolt B provided with a hole 6 so that the hasp c of a padlock C may be passed thru it and locked. Tho bolt B also passes thru a hole a in the boss n 011 the nozzle N.
When the parts are in the position shown in Figure 1, the nozzle N and its attached hose H may not be removed from hanging position but must first be unlocked and the bolt B withdrawn, before the hose and nozzle can be used.
I do not restrict myself to the particular type of device shown as it may be subject to great variations without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States:
1. A hose nozzle hanger comprising an open housing with a hood to cover the open end of the nozzle when hung up therein, and a support secured to and within the housing from which the said nozzle may be removably hung.
2. A hose nozzle hanger comprising an open housing with a hood to cover the open end of the nozzle when hung up therein, a support secured to and within the housing on which the said nozzle may be removably hung, and means for locking said nozzle to said housing so that the nozzle may not be removed from the said support until unlocked.
3. The combination of a nozzle for a dispensing hose having a hook from which it may be suspended when in inverted position, a hanger consisting of an open housing with a support for said nozzlewhen hung therein, means for shielding the end of said nozzle in said position a perforated lug on said nozzle and .a ,bolt passing through said nozzle 111g" and housing for looking said nozzle to said housing when the nozzle is hung therein.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
LOUIS A. DOURSON.
