IMPROVEMENT IN sULKv-PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147., [56, dated February 3, 1874; application filed .lune 10, 187:2.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT NEWTON, of Jerseyville, in the county of Jersey and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in SulkyPlows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention is an improvement upon the patent of F. S. Davenport, October 9,1866; and consists in the combination of an adjustable hinge with the foot-board and axle, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of a sulky-plow having my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 3, a detail view of the hin ge-joint connecting the footboard and the axle.
B represents the foot-board, united to the axle-beam by hinges, one of which, G, is so constructed that the foot-board is capable of l adjustment relatively to the axle-beam. In Fig. 2, b b represent slots in the footboard itself, and g g slots in the arm of the hingebracket, as shown.
By means of this construction the position of the plow, which is rigidly connected to the foot-board by means of its beam, may be varied relatively to the position of the axle and wheels, so that a parallel line between the plane of the wheels and the landside of the plow may be perfectly preserved.
Having thus described my invention, what 'I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a wheel-plow, the combination of the adjustable hinge with the foot-board B, beam A, and axle, as described.
