Description
Z. A, GIFFORD SIGN EXHIBIT awe/who'd Patented Apr. 24, 1923.
UNITED STATES ZENAS GIFFORD, OF LOCKPORT, NEW YORK.
SIGN EXHIBIT.
Application filed November 2, 1922. Serial No. 598,559.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZENAS A. Grrronn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lockport, in the county of Niagara, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Sign Exhibit; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apo pertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to sign exhibitors and has for its object to provide a garbage or trash receptacle with means whereby signs may be displayed in connection therewith. The receptacle is provided with sign receiving channels adjacent its corners whereby signs may be held in engagement with the sides of the receptacle. Also to provide the hinged cover of the receptacle with oppositely disposed channels for the reception of the ends of the signs.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 1s a perspective view of the receptacle.
Figure 2 1s a horizontal sectional view through the receptacle.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular shaped body of the receptacle, which body has its corners reinforced by means of the angle bars 2 disposed within the corners, and the angle bars 3 disposed on the outer vertical edges of the bodyl. Secured to the outer sides of the angle bars 3 are angle bars 41, which have their flanges 5 of greater width than the flanges of the angle bars 3, thereby forming vertically disposed channels 6 for the reception of the opposite edges of removable signs 7 on which signs any desired subject matter may be painted. Hingedly connected at 8 to the rear wall of the receptacle 1 is a downwardly and forwardly inclined cover 9, the opposite sides of which are provided with upwardly and inwardly extending flanges 10, which flanges form channels in connection with the division plate 16 form channels 17 for the reception of the signs 18, thereby allowing the rear as well as the front of the extension above the receptacle to be usedfor advertising purposes.
From the above it will be seen that by using the angle bars 3 and & on eachcorner of the vbody 1, the corners are thoroughly reinforced and at the same time the channels 6 are formed for the reception of signs 7 which may be easily slid into position. It will also be seen that a receptacle of the garbage or trash type is provided and that said receptacle is utilized for advertising purposes.
The cover 9 is provided with a handle member 19, which handle member is pivotally connected to the cover at 20, and not only forms means whereby a cover may be raised but also forms means for cooperating with the partition 17 and signs 18 for holding the cover in open position when the can is being dumped. If so desired the signs may be pasted or otherwise secured to the receptacle.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is:
The combination with a rectangular shaped receptacle, of reinforcing and sign holding means carried thereby, said means comprising angle bars disposed in'the corners of the receptacle, an angle bar disposed on the outer sides of the corners, angle bars disposed on the last named angle bars and having their flanges wider thereby forming channels for the reception of signs, the rear outer angle bars extending upwardly above the receptacle and provided with oppositely disposed inwardly extending flanges thereby forming sign receiving channels.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name of this specification. ZENAS A. GIFFORD,
