BEMAILING BOX.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RUSSELL I. RHODES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Remailing Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to improvements in what are known as remailing boxes, and aims to provide a box of this character which will be strong and serviceable in use and capable of being economically manufactured.

With these and other objects in view, the invention includes the novel features of constrdction and arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and defined by the appended claims.

My said invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a remailing box with the box, cover, and address card separated and the inner closure and card supporting flap partly opened.

Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the numeral 1 designates the body of the box and 2 the cover, which may be of the ordinary or any desired construction, except as hereinafter referred to in res ect to the address openin s in the cover. he box and cover may also be provided with any suitable or desired fastening means such for example as the foldable tongues 1 designed to enetrate the slots 2* in the cover and be fo ded over to retain the parts together in the manner well understood by those skilled in'the art,

My invention contemplates the use of an address card 3 which is fprinted upon one face only with two sets 0 properly defined or indicated address spaces for sender and addressee, these two sets being arranged in reverse symmetry.

For example, at one end or on one half of the card at the to when viewed from one side edge, is an e ongated defining line indicating a space 3 to receive the name and address of the sender, (inscribed as John Doe, Lynn, Mass.) and below this and near the bottom edge is a similarly defined and preferably larger space 3'3 to receive the Specification of Letters Patent.

At the opposite end of or on the other half of the surface of the card are a pair of similarly defined spaces 3" and 3" arranged in reverse relation to the first named spaces.

The box cover is provided with two out out portions near one end thereof indicated at 2 and 2 which openings correspond in position and size to either of the pairs of defined spaces on the address card, depending on the relative position of the card and cover. In order to support the card in proximity to the to wall of the cover, I provide it with a hinged fia or supplemental cover 4 hinged at one si e to the body of the box and resting at the opposite side when closed, upon a. ledge or abutment. Preferably these are formed as parts of a stifi'ening lining of corrugated paper or the like which may be formed olf a single piece havin the portion 4 forming the cover carrie foldably by a portion 4 secured to or abutting against one side wall of the box, this portion 4' in turn connecting with the bottom 4 which carries at its opposite ed e the portion 4, the upper edge 0 of whic or shoulder ereinbefore referred to.

The hinge connection between parts 4 and 4 may be. lformed by merely creasing or scoring the corrugat paper board.

Instead of providing a separate address card the printed matter or markings defining the address spaces ma be printed directl on the supplement cover 'as indicats in Fig. 3, or on a sheet or label pennanently afiixed thereto.

Having thus descri d my invention what I claim 15:-

1. In a remailing box, the combination with a receptacle and a cooperating cover having a pair of openings of an address member fitted to lie beneath the cover in juxta osition thereto and having two pairs of defined address spaces designed to alternately coact with the openings in the cover, all four of said address spaces being located on the same side of the address member, said cover and said address member being reversible relatively to each other, whereby either of said sets of defined address spaces may be aligned with said 0 enings.

2. In a remailing box, t e combination with a receptacle and 'a cooperating cover having a pair of openings of an address member having two pairs of defined address spaces all located on the same side of the address member and designed to alternately coact with the cover openings and means for supporting said address member in proximity to the under side of the cover.

3. In a remailing box the combination with a receptacle and cooperating cover, said cover having an opening, of a liner for the bottom and side walls of the box and an address supporting member hingedly connected to one edge of the top wall liner and having its free edge supported b the edge of the other wall liner, and an a dress card supported by said member.

Certificate of Correction.

It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 1,405,002, granted January 31,

1922, upon the application of Russell I. Rhodes, of North Attleboro, Massachusetts,

for an improvement in Remailing Boxes, an error appears in the printed specification requiring correction as follows: Page 2, line 32, claim 3, strike out the words one edge of the top and insert the top edge of one; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Oflice.
