the like, of the following specification. c. p v

This invention relates to wringers for wringing mops, floor cloths and the like of the type in which the'wringing, is effected by squeezing the mops, floor cloths and the like between two rollers and by drawing the articles from between the said rollers.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved device of this kind.

A wringer made in accordance with this invention comprises a water-tight vessel, wringing rollers mounted on spindles transverselydisposed in said vessel, one of said rollers being fixed and the other capable of traveling lengthwise of the vessel, the spindle of the traveling roller operating in slots formed in or mounted on the vessel, means for bringing the traveling roller up against the fixed roller by foot pressure, and means for keeping the rollers normally apart.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wringer made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is afront view and Fig. 3 a plan. Fig. 4 shows, in side elevation, a modified construction. Fig. 5 is a side elevation'of a further modification. Fig. 6 is a front view, and Fig. 7 is a plan. v

In Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are shown an apparatus comprising a box or bucket ladapted to hold water and provided with two rollers 2 and 3 which are free to rotate about their respective spindles 4 and 5. The spindle 4: of the roller 2 is slidable lengthwise of the vessel in slots 6 provided in the sides of the box. The spindle 5 of the roller 3 can not so travel. Normally, the roller 2 is held at the extremity of its outward travel by springs 7 attached at one end to the spindle 4 and anchored at the other end to p1ns'8 or the like.

The spindle 4: of the roller 2 is connected 7 to angle brackets 9 by flexible cords, wires or the like 10 which are conducted over the pulleys 11 rotatably mounted for rotation Y 1n brackets 12 fixed to thevessel 1.

On the foot pressure being relaxed from the pedal, the pedal is tilted up by the contracting action. of the springs 7 and the roller 2 is also thereby returned to normal position at the slots 6.

In the modification illustrated at Fig. 1 the front roller 17 is, as in the case above described, slidable lengthwise of the vessel. The roller 17 is non-slidable. The spindle 16 of the roller 17, which slides in the slots 18, is connected to springs 19 which are anchored at the outer ends to pins or other fastenings provided in the sides of the vessel. The spindle 16 is pivotally connected to an arm 20 which is also pivotally connected to apin 21 to which are also pivotally connected arms 22 and23. The arm 22 is pivotally mounted on a pin 24 fixed in the side of the vessel. The arm 23 ispivoted on a rod 25 carried by the pedal 26 which latter is hinged at 27 to the vessel.

It is to be understood that like mechanism is arranged at both sides of the vessel.

Theoperation of wringing is, as in the casefirst above described, performed by applying foot pressure to the pedal 26 and withdrawing the article being wrung from between the rollers 17 and 17 The springs 19 return the roller 17 outwardto normal position.

' At Figs. '5, 6 and 7 is illustrated a further modification. In this arrangement the rear roller 29 is slidable, and the front roller 33 is non-slida'ble. To the-spindle 28 of the slidable roller 29' are connected the springs 30 anchored at points 31 to the vessel. The springs are not external. They are con- 1 tainedwithin' recesses provided for them in the wall of the vessel. V Instead of having the springs, by which the slidable roller isreturned and the pedal lid elevated arranged ator in the sides of the vessel, the pedal lid may be actedupon by springsdirectly applied thereto, or the hinges of the lid may be spring-influenced, the requisite connection being established between the pedal and the slidable roller. I The vessel may be of any suitableshape and dimensions. It may be 'made' of galvanized iron, aluminium or other suitable metal.

Any convenient form of handle or handles may be fitted to the appliance as may be desired.
