The arm (11) is further provided with a central here or, in other words, it is hollow, and made to receive a rod or the like (17) which projects through the threaded end of the arm and with its projecting end threaded and on which is carried the wing nut (18). This nut may be run up or down on the threaded end of the rod and when turned down to an extent where it will bear against the ring (16) or the slightly protruding end of the arm, further turning of 'ill hereinafter describec.

the same will exert an upward pull on the rod the purpose for which will follow.- The end of the rod (17) positioned or inclosed within the hollow or bore of the arm (11) includes two transverse openings in which the ends (19) and (20) of the wire snare (21) are embedded and by which means the snare is securely fastened to the rod. EX- tending around the inner contour of the snare ring is an annular groove made to receive and accommodate the snare, thus carrying the same in a loop.
On the end of the handle (7) is a hinged finger projecting at right angles therefrom and maintained in such position by the spring tension device (23). This finger is provided with teeth or notches (24) which are adapted to be engaged by the end (25) the handle (9) so as to maintain the ssure member (5) and the snare ring together or rather in clamping relation when the ins ruinent is in use.
Having thus described the preferred construction of the instrument, the operation of the same is substantially as follows:
lit is highly desirable to have the snare encircle and grip the tonsil to be removed around the base of the same so that a complete removal will be effected; therefore the pressure inducing member is positioned on the outside of the cheek over the ramus of the jaw with the snare ring slipped over the tonsil, the snare at this time being seated within the groove and out of the way. When thus placed the desired pressure or clamping effect may be realized by gripping the handles (7) and (9). After the instru ment has been manipulated to position the tonsil in the best possible location and when the snare has encircled the base of the same the wing nut (18) may be turned down, thus imparting a pull to red (17) and through it to the snare (21), which draws the snare through the tissues and separates the tonsil with its capsule from its attachments. The manner of use may of course be varied within certain limits and its construction may be modified to a certain extent without departing from the spirit of the invention.

1. In a tonsil removing instrument a pressure producing member adapted to be positioned on the outside of the jaw adjacent the tonsil to be removed, a tonsil extracting member adapted to be positioned Within the throat to encircle the tonsil to be removed and means for inducing a clamping effect of said members.
2. A tonsil removing instrument comprising, a pressure member adapted to be positioned on the outside of the jaw adjacent the tonsil to be removed, a tonsil encircling member adapted to be positioned Within the throat and encircling the tonsil to be removed, a looped snare carried by said tonsil encircling member, means for inducing a clamping eiiect between the said members, and means for tightening the said snare around the tonsil substantially as described.
3. In a tonsil remover, a pressure member adapted to be positioned on the outside of the jaw adjacent the tonsil to be re" moved, a tonsil encircling member adapted to be positioned over the tonsil to be removed, means for inducing a clamping effect of the two members, a Wire snare carried on the inside of said tonsil encircling member adapted to be positioned around the tonsil and means for tightening the said snare around the tonsil.
i. A tonsil removing instrument, comprising a pair of armspivoted to each other and including manipulating handles, a pressure member carried on the end of one of said arms adapted to be positioned on the outside or" the patients jaw adjacent the tonsil,
to be removed, a tonsil encircling member carried by the other of said arms adapted to be positioned around the tonsil to be removed, said arm for the encircling memher having a bore extending throughout its length, a rod slidably mounted in said bore having a threaded end projecting from the end opposite the encircling member, means engaging said threaded end adapted to impart a pull to said rod, and a looped Wire snare carried in a groove in the inside of the encircling member having its ends connected to said rod, whereby a pull on the rod Will likewise impart a pull to the said snare and tighten the same around the tonsil encircled by the encircling member.
5. A tonsil removing instrument comprising a pair of pivoted handles, having means on their ends for holding the same in clamping position, an arm arranged as an integral part of one of the handles and having a pressure member on its end, a collar on the end of the other handle, an arm carried by said collar and having means to prevent the same from turning therein, said last named arm having bore extending the length thereof and an encircling member carried on its end,,a looped Wire snare carried in a groove on the inside of the encircling mem ber, a rod in said bore with the ends or" the said snare fastened thereto, said rod projecting beyond the end of the arm in the collar and having athreaded portion adapted to be engaged by a Wing nut, said nut adapted to be turned down against said collar for imparting a pull to the said snare.
