Be it known that I, MARTIN O. REHrUss,
a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented Machines for Making Links for Chains, of which the following is a specification.
One object of this invention is to provide a relatively simple substantial and compact machine for IOI'IIllHg a predetermined length of rod or wire material into a chain link and which shall becharacterized by the inclusion of a single reciprocating slide, together with coacting elements wherebythe link is completely formed by a single movement of said slide in one direction ;-the invention'contemplating a novel arrangement of'bending arms and forming rolls relative to a king post on which-thellink is tobe formed.;; 7

3. The combination of a reciprocating slide a king post; and two pairs of bending members on the slide placed to successively engage a length of rod material to bend it around the post 111 the form of a complete link during the movement of said-slide in one direction.
4. The combination in a link forming machine of a reciprocatory slide;'a' king post; two pairs of bending rolls on the slide mounted to successively engage a rod held against the kin-g post; and means for supporting one pairof said rolls to permit it to be bodily moved toward the king post during its operation on the rod under treatment.

The combination in a link forming machine of a king post; a reciprocatory slide; means for clamping a length of rod material successively to two differently shaped portions of said king post; and two sets of members carried by the slide for operating on said rod material first when it is engaged with one part of the king post and thereafter when it 1s engaged with the second part of said post and during a single movetwo other rolls relatively fixed on the slide i for engaging a length ofrod material to com plete a link after said material has been given a preliminary form by said first rolls; 12, The combination in alink forming machine of a slide; a king post; a pair of rolls movably mounted on the slide; means for causing saidrolls to pass around from one side to the other of the king post as the slide is moved in one direction to give a length'Qf.
