ELECTRODE-HOLDER.
Application filed May 8, 1918.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EINAR KA x'rnN, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Eydehavn, near Arendal, in the Kingdom of Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrode-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skllled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to letters r figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The present invention has for its object an electrode-holder in which the contact device between the electrode and the holder is so arranged that it may be easily tightened or loosened.
This is obtained according to the invention by means of hoops or sinuous wire rods, the legs or ends of which cross on one side of the electrode, inclosing on the opposite side of the cross point a bar or rod, by the turning of which the free ends of said legs are removed from each other, thereby causing the legs to clamp the electrode tightly.

Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The current carrying cables 1 are connected in a suitable manner to a terminal or block 2, provided with holes 3 for taking up or holding the straight shanks l of the hoops 4. Said hoops as illustrated on the drawing for practical reasons are divided, block 2 forming a common cross piece for all hoops. The legs 5, 6 of said hoops cross on each side of the electrode 7 and with their free ends 8 grip a rotatable rod or bar 9, provided with grooves 9 for each hoop leg. The grooves 9 are eccentric to the axis of the shaft and form a series of cams which engage the free ends 8 of the rods 5 and 6. The positions of the adjacent cams are different relative to the axis of Specification of Letters Patent.

the shaft, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 so that the ends of adjacent rods are moved in opposite directions by turning the bar 9, thereby clamping or releasing the electrode according to the position of the shaft.
An initial adjustment of the clamping may be performed by adjusting the shanks f in their holes 3, in which they are fastened. by means of screws 10.
It is evident that the rotatable rodor bar 9 might be replaced by a wedge or any other similar device.
Claims:
1. A conductor terminal, a pair of sinuous rods extending therefrom and crossing each other at two points, thereby forming an opening between the crossing points for the reception of an electrode, and means arranged parallel to the electrode to spread the crossed free ends of the rods, said opening for the electrode being between the ter minal. and the spreading means.
2. In an electrode-holder a number of elastic rodsa block for fastening one end of said rodssaid rods gripping with their free ends an electrode and crossing on one side of the same-and a rotatable bar provided with eccentric grooves for the rodsengaging the latter opposite their crossing point in order to vary the distance between the same and consequently vary the clamping pressure of the rods on the electrode.
3. A conductor terminal, a pair of crossed sinuous rods having straight shanks adjustably held in said terminal, said rods crossing each other at two points thereby forming an opening between the crossing points for the reception of an electrode, and means to spread the free ends of said rods. I
