Be it known that I, EDWARD J. KNAPP, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Sanctuary-Lamp, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to candle lamps and has for its object certain improvements in candle or sanctuary lamps of the type described in my Patent No. 1,255,614, Feb. 5, 1918, by which the candle and melted grease in the cupped base is caused to be almost entirely consumed and by which-outlets and a receptacle is provided to receive any grease running over the cupped base or down the candle which would otherwise obstruct the seating of the cap of the candle on the base and prevent proper burning of the candle.

The invention consists in the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed. e In describing this invention,reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of this lamp, the candle being shown in elevation.

Figs. 2' and 3 are, respectively, a plan and inverted plan of the cupped base.

The frame or holder is here-shown as adapted for a hanging lamp and is provided with suitable means as chains 4 by means of which it may be carried or suspended.

The frame or holder may be of any other suitable form, size and construction.

In the lamp of my patent, the melted wax or grease sometimes overflowed the cupped base and accumulated on the ring so that the.

cap could not seat substantially evenly but by this construction and by the corrugations 11, most of the wax runs off and any remaining on the ring accumulates in the corrugation or is flattened in the corrugations as the cap seats.

' In order that the butt of the candle or the melted wax or grease may be almost entirely consumed the wick 16 of the candle is increased in thickness at 17 at its lower end melted grease or wax as 18 in the cupped base ins'uflicient quantity to feed the flame, or fast enough to prevent the flame from being smothered in-the melted grease or wax.

As here shown the wick is held in the prongs 19 of a disk 20 at the lower end of the candle as in m patent referred to, and the wick is double back to increase the size of the wick in the butt of the candle. The bottom of the holder is also provided with suitable air holes 21,

A'candle lamp including a cupped base a receptacle below the base, the receptacle including an annular wall and inwardly and downwardly contracting portions, the base beingsupported on the portion of the bottom adjoining the annular wall and having passages between its bottom and said portion of the bottom of the receptacle and a candle supported in the base, substantially as and for the purpose described.
