G. A. CENTOLELLA.
ELECTRIC LIGHT SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED DEc.20. 191e.
Patented July 15, 1919.
lNVE NToR GuzlSep w A fienZaZeZZu, BY wfim WITNESSES GIUSEPPE A. CENTOLELLA, OF CLINTON, NEW YORK.
' ELECTRIC-LIGHT surronr.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15, 1919..
Application filed December 20. 1916. Serial No. 138.117.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Grosnrrn A. GEN- TOLELLA, a citizen of the United States,-residing at Clinton, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric-Light Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved electric,
light support which is especially adapted for holding and supporting an incandescent lamp upon the arm of a sewing machine in such manner as to adapt the light from the lamp to be directed upon the work to afford greater ease and convenience in sewing when the machine is used at night or in a dark place.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple, convenient and inexpensive form of electric light fixture which may be readily clamped to the arm of a sewing machine of any make and which permits the lamp to be readily adjusted as required t direct the 'rays of light in the desired direction.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a modified form of my improved electric light support.
Fig. 2 is a section View of the same. 7
Fig. 3 is a detailed transverse sectional View of the same.
.In the embodiment of my invention 1 35 provide a clamping band or attaching member which is adapted to embrace the arm of a sewing machine and comprises an open ring 25 having its out-turned ends connected by a bolt 26 and wingednut 27. 'A tubular arm 28 has its inner end provided with oppositely extended members 29 which v bear on and are riveted to the clamping band. Said tubular arm is provided with longitudinal kerfs 29 four in number, which extend to its outer or upper end and thereby provide a series of separated segmental sections 30. The upper end of the tubular arm is threaded and is engaged by a clamping nut 31 which is here shown as having a diametrically enlargedhead 31 provided with racured in any desired .and a pin pivotally dial openings 33 for engagement by a spanner wrench to enable the clamping nut to be' screwed on and unscrewed from the tubular arm.
The electric lamp socket-34 is screwed to the outer-end of a tubular member 35 the inner end of which is formed with a pair ofspaced ears 36. A tubular member 37 has spaced cars 38 at its upper end between whlch the ears 36 are fitted and a pivot screw 39 is employed which passes through line openings in the ears 36, 38 and pivotally connects the member 35 to the member 37 so that the electric lamp may be moved upwardly or downwardly as may be desired. A spacer 40 is fitted on the pivot screw between the ears 36.
The tubular member 37 is pivotally mounted in the split tubular arm 28 and hence the lamp carrying member element, comprising the members 35, 37 may be turned in any desired direction. The tubular arm and the member 37 adapt the lamp carrying element to be also adJusted vertically, by
- adjusting the member 37 in the tubular arm,
and owing to the construction of the tubular arm with its split portions or segments, and
also owing to the provision of the clamping nut, the lamp carrying member may be seposition and at any deslred adjustment.
Having thus described my invention What is claimed is: A device of the class described comprising a clamping ring, a tubular member having its base secured to said ring, said member havlng its outer-portion divided into quarters of longitudinal slots and having its outer end screw threaded, a nut engaging said screw threaded end and having an enlarged part having openings therein, a second tubular member having one end forked,
and its other end fitting in the first member and adapted to be clamped therein by the nut, a lamp socket, a tubular member connected therewith and having a forked end connecting the forked ends together.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
' GIUSEPPE A. CENTOLELLA.
