CABINET.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 13. 19W.

INVENTOR 'Stwart ATTORNEY DONALD STEWART, F WATERLOO, IOWA.
CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
Application filed .Tune 13, 1917. Serial No. 174,547.
To all :whom it may concern Be 1t known that I, DONALD STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterloo, in the county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to cabinets and is particularly concerned with that type of cabinet designed for containing salt, pepper, spices, tea, coffee and the like.
It is the object of this invention to provide a cabinet which will retain such articles as above mentioned in an orderly manner and which is so constructed as to present the desirous condiments or article to the user upon proper manipulation of certain actuating means, the other articles contained 1 in the cabinet being concealed and inacces sible during the presentation of the desired article.
The invention resides in the provision of a housing having a door or window therein and a rotatable holder comprising a plurality of compartments each of which is presented in succession before the said door or window, each compartment being adapted to have an article or a particular condiment placed therein.
Other features of the invention will be apparent from' the following description, which clearly sets forth combination and arrangement of parts, and from the appended claim.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 isa side elevation of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the cabinet, and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectlonal view taken substantially on line 38 of Fig. 2.
Like characters denote similar and like parts throughout the specificat on and drawings.
The cabinet according to the lnventlon may be of any desired slze and may be incorporated in the combination kitchen cabinets now extensively used. The invention consists, more in detail, of a locusing, of any particular shape, havlng 1n one of its walls an opening 2 closed by a door 3 hinged to a housing as indicated at 4. The door 3 is constructed with a glass wlndow or other sight opening 5 and may be held 1n its closed position by a latch means 6. The
the construction,
be of such size as to contain (Figs. 2 and 3) l is prohousing 1 may several revolving holders 7 and, in such instances, the housing vided with a corresponding number of openings 2, as shown in Fig. 1, for a purp which will be readily apparent from a better understanding of the invention.
Each holder 7 comprises a horizontal platform a supported by the vertical shaft 8 extending through the center thereof and journaled at its ends in the bearings '9 secured tothe upper and lower walls of the housing 1. A plurality of radially disposed on the upper surface of the Each revolving'holder 7 can be positioned in the housing adjacent an 'opening2 so that the articles therein may be reached. A beveled gear 10 is carried on the shaft 8 below the holder and meshes with another gear 11 on the horizontal shaft 12. This shaft .12 has its inner end journaled in the bearing 13 projecting from the above referred to, and has its outer end journaled in and extended through the side wall of the housing, just below the opening 2, the outer extremity of the sha t carrying a pointer 14. A dial 15 is arranged about the outer end of the shaft 12 with which the pointer 14 cooperates.
It is contemplated by my invention to ave the names of or articles marked on the dial at uniformly spaced intervals and each rotation of the holder 7 about its axis willcause one complete rotation of the pointer 14, which is so positioned that, ments 0 is before the door-opening 2, the pointer will indicate upon the dialthe particular article or condiment which is presented. It being understood, of course, that the door-opening 2 is only of sufiicient size v permit an unobstructed access to the compartment which is before the opening.
It will, therefore, be obvious that should it be desired to obtain a particular condiment or article in the cab net it'would only be pointer 14 to the point on the dial naming that condiment and the rotation of the pointer will cause the holder 7 to rotate sufiiciently to present the com- .partment thereof containing the desired condiment before the door-opening 2. Manifestly, the present invention provides a means for contammg the varlous articles or lower bearing 9,
the various ingredients ingredients in an orderly manner and will present them for use systematically and Without mistake, because the pointer will always indicate thatparticular condiment before the opening of the cabinet; The compartments of the holders 7 are designed to retain bottles, jars or other containers 16, indicated in dotted lines, and which initially contain the condiments however, the compartments themselves may ed to initially contain the condiments. In the" present construction, when it is desired to replace the containers 16 in the cabinet, the user will see that the pointer l l indicates on the dial that the 'proper'compartment for receiving the particular condiment or article is in position beforethe door-opening 2, and in this tematic operation of the cabient is obtained. The above clearly describes my invention, however, it is to be understood that in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts changes may be resorted to that fall within the legitimate scope ofthe appended claim.
What is claimed is z A cabinet comprising a housing having be constructmanner an orderly and sys an opening in one Wall intermediate the top and bottom, a closure for the opening, a bearing plate secured to the inner side of the bottom of the housing, a bearing plate secured to the inner side of the top of the housing, a vertical shaft rotatably mounted in the plates, a platform carried by the shaft, said platform being positioned adjacent the bottom edge of the opening in the Wall, a gear connected to the vertical shaft, a bearing arm connected to the bottom bearing plate adjacent the vertical shaft, a horizontal shaft having one 1 end received in the bearing arm and the opposite end passing through the Wall of the housing, a gear secured to the horizontal shaft and meshing with the gear on the vertical shaft, a dial plate secured to the outer face-of the wall containing the opening, and a pointer secured to the outer end of the horizontal shaft and operating around the dial.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
