Be it known that I, HARRY W. DENHARD,
va citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric Attachment Devices, of which the follcu-'ing is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyand in which lthe conducting members ar'e of an improved construction.
A further object of my invention 1s to provide an improved elect-ric attachnient device which is especially adapted to bc used in connection with electric heating or other devices andwhich may be readily attached to theV device providing a suitable coperating member for an attacln'ncnt plug of any desired form.
Other Objects and advantages of my im` proved construction will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings l have, for purposes of illustration, shown one form which my invention may assume in practice. My invention is not, however, limitedto this form but may assume other forms.
In the. views oflthese irawings: Figure 1 shows a top plan,view of one of the parts of the attachment device. Fig. 2 shows a, top plan vie'w of the same with one of the base members removed. Fig. 3 shows a side elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 shows ay longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 5 shows a detail view of one of the base members of the same. Fig. G shows a perspective view of one` of the contact members for the same.
In, the construction shown l have illustrated an attachment plug having two base members l and 2, which are arranged to be fitted together, andl carry between them elec trical contact members. In a prcfcrred form the base members l and 2 formed of porcelain or molded stone, The base member 1 is preferably provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

Vlhese projections are arranged to lit snugly into correspomling recesses' or steps on the upper surface of the coperating base' member 2. In a preferred form the upper surface of the base member 1 made sub. stantially iiat and lies substantially fiush with the surface of an upwardly extending portion of the base member while the back of th'e base member l is rounded ofl' as shown at in Fig. 3, bein-g adaptedto form with the back of the member 2 upon which' it rests, a substantially smooth curved surface. .ln a preferred forfn the forward surface of the member 2 is rounded as shown at 7, and the sides .of the members l and 2 are preferably sloping, as shown in Fig. 1, the two parts being so constructed that they fit snugly upon each other and provide a substantially smooth outer surface.
The contact members are preferably constructed as shown in Fig. 6. ln a preferred form l` provide a Contact shank 8 of substantially rectangulag.cross-section, having an extension 9 substantially at. right angles to it. A body member l() having an upwardly extending projection 11 preferably formed integralwith the same and extending at right angles thereto, is preferably swiveled as lby a bindingscrew 12 to the extension 9 on the shank 8. In a preferred form the body men'ibcr 10 is substantially fiat throughout thegrcater portion of its length and is provided with a depressed .portion 13 at the end opposite the extension 1l, in which depressed portion is suitably secured, as by a nut l-l, a terminal plug 15 which may be of the usual construction.
The base members 1 and 2 are preferably vprovided with internal recesses arranged to receive two or more of the Contact members. lu a preferred form the contact members are n'iade in what may be called right and left members, the body member l0 in the right member having its extension l1 on its left-hand side, while the'body member l() on the left-hand member has its extension 10 on its right-hand side. The Shanks 8 preferably extend upward through suitable slots or recesses 16 in the two base members 3 terlninal plugs 15 'may extend through the bottom of this base member.suitable recesses or holes are provided on the opposite sides of the base. It desired, the base member 2 may Ibe provided with suitable extensions or ,3 nipples 19 arranged to vprotect the upper ends of the terminal plugs, these nipples being preferably formed integral` with thel lbase. The upper base member 1, in order that it may coperate with the base 2 in receiv- Q ing the contact members, is preferably provided with a plurality of recesses 20 arranged to house the swivel connection of the contact members. In a preferred form these recesses 20 communicate with the slots 1G g5 through suitable lrecesses 21 arranged to house the extensions 9. If desired the two parts of the bases'l and 2 may be attached together by any suitable means extending through a suitable recess 22 in the bodies .50 of the bases 1 and 2 between the contact njiembers.
In applying my attaclunent device toa device carrying a switch mechanism, I preferably provide one of the base members with a recess 23 leading tothe, contact members, which is preferably slightlymilarged in cross-section as it approaclrnvs the latter. The conductors for the switch mechanism are brought in through this recess and attached to one or more of the contact members` the removablesection 10 being taken ont by simply loosening the holdingr means at its ends. Vhere a single pole switch mechanism is used, for instance, the conductorsmay be attached to the binding screw 12 and the tap 14 on one of the vcontact members. As in the ordinary use of the device, the shanks 8 in this instance may be attached to a removable attachment plug,
and the plugs 15 inserted in the plugs on the heating unit, or vice versa.
It will thus be seen that an improved attachment or connecting device. has been provided which may be readily taken apart and in which'new parts may be easilysubsti- K tntcd since the contact members are so arranged that they may be removed as an entirety from the basel The attachment is made of a small number of parts of simple construction whit-.h may be readily standardized and lmani'lfactured at small expense. The construction is especially adapted to be carried by an electric, heater or other relatively small translating device in which a` switch member is used, since the attachment may be readily connected to the switch mechanism. The construction is compact, the parts are etfectually insulated and the whole attachment presents Aa neat appearance.
It should be understood that the structure shown is for purposes of illustration only and that other structures may be devised which embody the `invention and which come within the spirit and s'cope of the appended claims. Y
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States is:
1. An electric attachment device comprising an linsulating base divided1 into two partsfa pair of offset plug connectors, each comprising two plug `contacts extending in opposite directions in offset relation and coiinected .together by a detachable member, said connectors being located in' said base so that the detachable connecting member is between the two sections'of said base whereby when one section isjremoijed the connecting member may be readily detached.
2. An electric attachment device comprijsing in combination, a sectional, insulating b ase having afplurality of pairs of plug contacts protruding from opposite sides there!` of in an offset -relation and a removable `vconducting member between the sectionsrof 'd base-.for electrically connecting certain o? said opposite contacts.

An electricalconnector comprising in combination, a sectional insulating base having clamped between the parts thereof a pair of contacts with extensions protrudingr from opposite sides of said base, and conducting means between the parts of said base for electrically connecting certain of said contacts together, each pair ofsaid contacts being removable independently of the other pair and said conducting means being removable independently of both pairs of said contacts. i
