FOOT-BEST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1914.
Application filed October 4, 1912. Serial No. 723,850.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ga n C. Kos'rnnnn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Rests; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in foot rests, and more particularly to such devices for use in automobiles and other vehicles, and its object is to provide a simple and durable device not likely to get out of order, and to provide the same with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the'claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
' Figure 1 is a perspective of a device embodying my invention with a portion broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective of one end of the tube 4:. Fig. 3 is a perspective in detail of one corner of one arm, and Fig. 4 is a detail in section of one end of the tube, and a portion of the arm to which it is attached.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
My invention consists mainly in the means whereby the end of the tube is securely and detachably connected with the arm, as will hereinafter more fully appear, reference being had to the drawings in which 1 represents a bracket adapted to be secured to the floor of a vehicle or elesewhere as occasion may arise.
2 represents an arm substantially triangular in form in a vertical plane, one angle of which is pivoted to the bracket. The lower edge of the arm is provided with a flange 3 to rest upon the floor and support the arm when in use. Near the upwardly projecting corner of the arm 2 a circular recess 7 is formed, by depressing the metal, to receive the end of the tube l, which constitutes the foot rest proper. At the end of this tube are lugs or projections 9 which engage suitable depressions 8 in the bottom of this recess, whereby the tube A is prevented from rotating. In the axis of the tube and eX- tending through the axis of the depression 7 in the arms is a tie-bolt having a nut 6 on the end, whereby the arms are firmly forced against the ends of tube A.
By this construction a very strong and substantial structure is produced that is easily taken apart for storage or transportation and readily reassembled as occasion may require.
What I claim is:
A foot rest, comprising substantially triangular pivoted sheet metal arms having circular depressed portions near one angle to receive the end of a tube, and recesses in said portions, a tube inserted in said portions and having projections inserted in the recesses, and a tie-bolt extending through the arms and the axis of the tube.
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARL G. KUSTERER.
