To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANNA ZUCKER, a c tizen of the United States, residing at Liv- Mont-ana, have invented a new and useful Mosquito-Hood, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter of this application is a shield or hood, adapted to be placed about the head of the wearer for the purpose of protecting the same against mosquitos and other insects.

The invention aims to provide a device of the type above mentioned which may be attached readily and be detached readily from the head and body of the user. It is within the scope of the invention to provide novel means for supporting the head guard.

The invention aims, further, to provide a device of this type in which a neck shielding hood is connected with the head guard, the construction being such that the hood may be removed and attached without displacing the head guard from the head of the wearer.

Another object or the invention is to provide a device of this type having novel means for shielding the mouth and. the eyes of the wearer, the construction being such that the eye-pane may be removed readily for cleaning, the mouth closure being adapted to drr-p gravitationally into an open position.

\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawingz-Figure 1 shows the invention in front elevation, the hood being removed; Fig. 2 is a side elevation, the neck hood appearing in section as an added de tail; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 7 is a perspective of the slide.

Tn carrying out the invention there is provided a front chamber 1 and a rear member 2, the members 1 and 2 being fashioned from fine mesh wire screen or other f0 raminous material, and being, each, of substantially semi-oval form. The members 1 and 2 abut along a vertical line and the vertical edge of the front member 1 is received within the frame 3, which as shown in Fig. 5, is of U-shape in cross section, the frame 3 being received within a U-shaped frame 4:, the edges '5 of which constitute flanges, between which is held the rear member 2. At one side of the guard, the frames 3 and 4 are connected by a hinge 6, and at the other side of the guard, the frames 3 and 1 are connected by clasp 7 of the sort which is commonly employed upon pocket books. It is to be understood, however, that any suitable means may be provided for connecting the edges of the frames 3 and 4. It is to be observed that when the frames 3 and 4 are closed together as shown in Fig. 2, the free edges of the frame 3 will retire within the contour of the frame 1, and thus a tight closure will'be effected along the meeting edges of the parts of the head guard.

In the part 1 there is an opening into which is inserted a frame 8 which is S- shaped in cross section, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The frame 8 is open at the top, and owing to its S-shape a pair of sockets are provided, one of which sockets denoted by the numeral 9, serves to receive the edge of the member 1, the other of which sockets, denoted by the numeral 10, serves to receive removably, a transparent eye-pane 11, which may be fashioned from glass, the construction obviously being such that the eye-pane 11 may be lifted out of the socket 10 in which it .is mounted.

Below the eye-opening above described, the front member 1 is provided with a mouth opening, about which extends a frame 12. Secured to the lower edge of the frame 12 is a pair of hinge members 14, which are connected with the lower edge of a frame 15, the interior of which is filled with a screen closure 16. The upper edges of the frames 12 and 15 are detachably united by means of a clasp 17. The construction as above described is such that by disengaging the clasp 17, the mouth closure, comprising the frame 15 and the foraminous portion 16 will drop gravitationally into :1 depending and o11t-of-thc-\\-'ay position, there to remain until manually raised to permit the clasp 17 to exercise its obvious function. If desired, a body engaging means may be provided for supporting the head guard hereinbefore set forth. To this end, a pair of diverging supports 18 are provided, the upper ends of which are equipped with angularly disposed feet 19, the feet 19 being secured to the frame 4. The supports 18 terminate in upright extensions 20 provided at their lower ends with guide ways 21 in which slides 22 are mounted to reciprocate, the slides 22 being equipped at their lower ends with eyes 23. Arched shoulder pieces 24 are shown, theshoulder pieces 24 having spaced eyes 25 at their crowns, between which eyes the eyes 23 of the slides 22 are received. Pivot pins 26 are passedthrough the eyes 25 and 23. The shoulder, pieces 24 may be provided at their lower ends with openings 27 adapted to receive flexible elemcnts E which may be tied together beneath the arm pits of the wearer, it being undei stood that the arched pieces 24- normally rest upon the shoulders.

Secured to the members 1 and 2 about the neck opening in the head guard are plates 28, supplied with outstanding loops 29. The invention further includes a tubular, flexible hood 31, equipped at its upper end with hooks 30, adapted to engage in the loops 29. The loops 29 are located between the supports 18 and the construction is such that the hood 31 may be attached to and detached from the head guard, without removing the head guard. When the hood 31 is not in use, the same may be detached from the head guard, and be permitted to drop down upon the shoulders of the wearer, between the shoulder pieces 24.

Owing to the fact that the guides 22 are pivotally connected with the shoulder pieces 24, it will be seen that the wearer of the structure will be free to move the head to and fro. Further, owing-to the fact that the slides 22 are mounted to reciprocate in the guide Ways 21 of the extensions 20, a slight relative vertical movement between the head of the wearer and the shoulders will be provided for and accommodated.

The device herein disclosed is of few parts and the structure will be found thoroughly efiicient in protecting both the head and the neck of the wearer from the inroads of mosquitos, gnats and like insects. The mouth closure 15-46 may be opened readily, permitting the wearer to smoke, or eat, without removing the head guard. The eye-pane 11 may be removed readily for cleaning,

should the same become fogged. In order to remove the device it is necessary merely to detach the clasps 17 from each other and to swing the members 1 and 2 upon the hinge 6, whereupon the members 24: may be lifted ofit the shoulders.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is.

1. In a device of the class described, shoulder pieces, a head guard comprising separable parts; and a connection between each shoulder piece and the guard, the connection comprising slidably unit/ed elements, one of which elements is pivoted vtO one shoulder piece, the other of which elements is connected with the guard.

2. In a device of the class described, shoulder pieces; a head guard comprising separable parts; slides pivoted to the shouldet' pieces; and supports connected with the guard and connected with the slides for right line movement.

3. In a device of the class described, ahead guard comprising separable parts; supports connected with the guard and pr0- vided with guide ways; slides mounted to reciprocate in the guide ways and provided with eyes; shoulder pieces rovided with eyes; and pivot elements uniting the eyes of the shoulder pieces with the eyes of the slides.-

4. In a device of the class described, shoulder pieces; .a head guard having an opening in its bottom; and a connection between each shoulder piece and the guard;

the connection comprising slidably united elements, one otwhich. elements is pivoted to one shoulder piece, the other of which elements is connected with theguard.

5. In a. device of the class described, a rigid head guard; body engaging means connected with the guard for supporting the same; and a flexible tubular neck inclosing hood detachably united with the lower ortion of the guard, within the contour o. the body engaging means.

6. In a device of the class described, shoulder engaging means; a .head guard; supports depending from the head guard; and pivot elements uniting the supports with the shoulder engaging means, the pivot elements being located below the head guard and between the front and back portions of the shoulder engagin means. i
