To all who met may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE A. SMITH- WICK, a citizen of the United States, residin at Metaline Falls, county of Pend Oreille, and State of Washington, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Clubs and Flash-Lights,

, with the flash light protected against injury, even though the club be wielded with great force.

A furthenobject is to provide a police mans or watchmans club and an electric flash light constructed any ordinary or standard type of dry battery and incandescent lamp may be used and the parts so arranged that the battery and lamp may be quickly, easily, and cheaply renewed at any time.

A further object is to provide an improved combined club and flash light wherein a button switch is employed in the handle which permits the light to be readily turned on or off so that when the light is not needed, the battery may be saved.

The invention is set forth fully herein after and the novel features are recited in the appended claims.

"The club 1 isof any suitable wood adapti g'it for use as a policemans or watchmans club, and is solid except in its handle where it is hollow, as shown at 2 to contain the dry battery 3 which may be of any ordinary or preferred form. Secured on the exterior of the end of the handle is a sleeve at and onto this is screwed a lens holder 5 having a flange 6 which engages the lens 7 and holds it against the end of the handle. Received within the end of the handle is a lamp holder 8 preferably provided with a and arranged so that flaring mouth 9 to fit against a correspondingly flared mouth in the handle. The lens 7 rests against the flared mouth 9. The lamp holder has a screw-threaded socket 10 which receives the lamp 11, the latter. being of any preferred or ordinary form of the incandescent type, the outershell of which is in connection with one terminal of the filament and the other terminal of the filament being adapted to bear against the pole or terminal 12 of the battery. is provided with a push button switch 13 having a flat strip of metal 1 1 located within the handle and at 15 bearing against a spring 16 which in turn bears against the other pole of the battery 3. The other part of the, switch has a .flat metallic strip 17 pressed between the lamp holder Sand the wall of the handle. As shown in Fig. 8, the circuit runs from the push button by way of the strip 17 to the holder 8, thence through the lamp, by .way. of the spring 16' and parts 14 and 15 to the open terminal of the switch.

The switch ordinarily remains open, but on depressingthe button 13, the lamp is illuminated and the club may be then use as a flash light for any purpose desired. As the handle is the only part of the club which is hollow and because the club is made in one solid piece with no weakness, detachable parts, joints, or metallic connections, its strength, durability and eflectiveness are the same as those of an ordinary policcmails or watchmans club, and it has the added advantage of being adapted for use as a flash light, bcsideshaving no features in violation of ordinance or rules of any section of the country appertaining to policeniens or watchmens c ubs.
