To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE M. WVANEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gun-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The general object of this invention is the provision of a gun holder which is provided with releasable means for retaining a weapon in engagement therewith, said means being adapted to move laterally with respect to the holder, whereby the necessity of withdrawing the Weapon from the holder in the usual manner is obviated.

In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are susceptible to changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment being shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the outer side of the gun holder showinga Weapon therein in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the inner side of the holder. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters designate similar parts, it will be seen that the invention comprises a body 5 formed from a flat piece of metal substantially the shape of a revolver, the reduced shank 6 of said body being provided at its outer extremity with a. lateral extension 7 which carries a stud 8 thereon, said stud being adapted to engage the interior of the barrel of a revolver when the same is in the holder. The main portion of the body 5 is provided with an enlarged opening 9 adapted to receive the chamber of the revolver when in position in the holder, said body being also provided with a hook 10 which is adapted to engage the trigger guard of the revolver. A substantially U-shaped supporting bracket 11 is provided with the flange extensions 12 which are adapted to engage the body 5 and be secured thereto by means of the fastening rivets 13, said bracket being formed with alined slots 14 which are adapted to receive a belt for supportingthe holder upon the body of the wearer. The bracket 11 is also provided 1 with the openings 15 which are adapted to receive rivets or other fastening means for securing the holder to said belt to prevent any movement of the same thereon. Secured to the body 5 upon the outer face thereof is a pivot plate 16 having the beari ings 17 extending laterally therefrom, said bearings being adapted to receive a pivot pin 18 which is adapted to be engaged by .the bearings 19 carried by the U-shaped pivoted'locking bracket 20 which has its free extremity 21 provided with an extension 22 having a slot 23 therein. A coil spring 24: is wound about the pivot 18, the extremities of said spring being adapted to engage the body 5 and the locking bracket 20 in order to cause the latter to swing to an open position.

The locking bracket 20 is retained in a closing position by means of a sliding lock bar 25 having the latch extension 26 which is adapted to engage the slot 23 in the extension 22 of the locking bracket, said lock bar extending transversely of the inner side of the body 5 and mounted between guide strips 27, said bar being retained in position by the plates 28. The latch 26 of the lock bar is normally retained in engagement with the slot 23 when the bracket is in a closing position by means of a spring 29 which is secured to the body 5 and which has an extension that engages a suitable opening 30 formed in the lock bar medially the ends thereof.

The lock bar 25 is provided adjacent its upper end with a laterally extending pin 31 which is adapted to slide in the slot 32 formed in the body 5 and engaging the said pin 31 is one arm of a bell crank lever 33, the same being pivoted to the body as indicated at 3 1. The other arm of the lever 33 is adapted to engage the beveled surface 35 of a shank36 which extends through a suit able opening 37 in the body 5, the inner end of said shank being secured to the free extremity of a leaf spring 38 which is secured to the inner face of the body 5 by means of a suitable fastener as indicated at 39, said spring being adapted to normally retain the shank 36 in an extended position.

It will be obvious that when it is desired to release a weapon from the holder, the pressure upon the head 40 of the shank 36 will cause the beveled surface 35 thereof to oscillate the bell crank lever 35 whereby the lock bar 25 will be actuated thus releasing the latch 26 thereof from engagement with the locking bracket 20 whereby the latter will swing to an open position upon its pivot 18 by reason of the coil spring 24. Then pressure is released upon the head 40 the locking bar 25 willturn to its normal posi tion by reason of the spring 29 and the lock ing bracket 20 can then be swung to its closing position into engagement with the latch 26 of said lock bar.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing, it will be obvious that the invention contemplates providing a gun holder which is simple in construction, durable, and effective and positive in operation.

What is claimed is 1. A holder comprising a body, a locking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, means slidable transversely of and connected to said body for engaging said bracket to normally retain the same in looking position, and means for releasing the last named means.

2. A gun holder comprising a body, a locking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, spring ressed means slidably connected to said b0 y transversely thereof for engaging said bracket to normally retain the same in looking position, and means for releasing the last named means.

3. A gun holder comprising a flat body having a reduced shank, said body being provided with a transverse opening adapted ;to receive the chamber of a revolver, releasable means for retaining the revolver in engagement with said body, and means carried by the free end of said shank for closing the barrel of said revolver, a portion of said means extending in spaced parallel relation to saidshank and adapted to enter the barrel of said revolver.

4:. A gun holder comprising a body, releasable means pivotally connected to and adapted to swing laterally from said body forretaining a weapon in engagement there with, means for releasing the first named means, and depressible means for actuating the last named means.

5'. A gun holder comprising a body, means for retaining a weapon in engagement therewith, means carried by said body for releasing a weapon from engagement therewith,

and including a beveled shank, and means connected to said shank for returning the same to its normal position.

6. A holder comprising a body, a locking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, means slidably connected to said body for engaging said bracket to normally retain the same in locking position, means for releasing the last named means, and means engaging said sliding means for returning the sameto its normal position.

7. A holder comprising a body, a locking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, means connected to said body for engaging said bracket to normally retain the same in a locking position, rocking means for releasing the last named means, and depressible means for actuating said rocking means.

8. A holder comprising a body, a looking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, means connected to said body for engaging said bracket to normally retain the same in a locking position, locking means for releasing the last named means, depressible means for actuating said rocking means, and means carried by said body for returning said depressible means to its normal position.

9. A holder comprising a body, a locking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, a sliding locking bar carried by said body and adapted to engage said locking bracket to retain the same in its locking position, a

bell crank lever pivoted to said body and engaging said lock bar, and a depressible shank having a beveled surface adapted to engage said bell crank lever for actuating said lock bar.

10. A holder comprising a body, a looking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, a sliding lock bar carried by said body and adapted to engage said locking bracket to retain the same in its locking position, a bell crank lever pivoted to said body and engaging said lock bar, a depressible shank having a beveled surface adapted to engage said bell crank lever for actuating said lock bar, and means carried by said body and engaging said lock bar for returning the same to its normal position.

11. A holder comprising a body, a looking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, a sliding locking bar carried by said body and adapted to engage said locking bracket to retain the same in its locking position, a bell crank lever pivoted to said body and engaging said lock bar, av depressible shank having a beveled surface adapted to engage said bell crank lever for actuating said lock bar, and means engaging said shank for returning the same to its normal position.

12. A holder comprising a body, a looking bracket pivoted thereto and adapted to retain a weapon in engagement therewith, a sliding locking bar carried by said body and adapted to engage said locking bracket to retain the same in its locking position, a bell crank lever pivoted to said body and engaging said lock bar, a depressible shank having a beveled surface adapted to engage said bell crank lever for actuating said lock bar, and means engaging said locking bracket for swinging the same to an open position when said lock bar is released therefrom.

13. A holder comprising a body formed from a fiat piece of metal, said body being provided at one end thereof with an extension having a stud adapted to engage the interior of the barrel of a weapon said body being also provided with an opening for the reception of the chamber of a weapon, a supporting bracket secured to said body, and means carried by said body for retaining a weapon in engagement therewith.
