WILLIAM L. WULFF, 01? LITTLE VALLEY, NEW YORK.
TWEEZER ATTACHMENT FOR KNIVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3,1912.
Application filed May 16, 1910. Serial No. 561,672.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LAWRENCE IVULFF, citizen of the United States, residing at Little Valley, in the county of Cattaraugus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tweezer Attachments for Knives; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a combined pocket knife and tweezer, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the knife, showing the tweezers applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, showing the tweezer jaws in closed position; Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal section of a portion of the knife handle, showing the tweezers open; and Fig. 4c is an edge view thereof.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 designates a knife handle having opposite side members 3 provided with a spring back portion 1 having on one end an enlargement 1 which provides a bearing for a shank 5, for the tweezers, said shank being pivoted between the ends of the side members 3, of the handle. The spring back 1 has a shoulder 1 on one end thereof, which is contiguous with the enlargement 1 The tweezers consist of jaws I which are made in separable parts and spaced from each other at their outer and inner ends, the inner ends being enlarged as at P, and between said inner ends is secured a T-shaped shank 5, having an outwardly projecting end 7 ,which is pivoted by a rivet 6, to the ends of the side members 3, said members being extended at their ends for the purpose of the pivotal connection. One end of the enlarged portion 4 of the shank 5, has a shoulder 6, as hereinbefore stated which contacts with the shoulder 5, of the shank when the tweezers are in an open position, and one side of the projecting end of the shank also contacts with the enlargement 1 when the tweezers are in an open position. The opposite end of the handle has a knife blade 2 pivoted thereto.
Having described my invention, claim is:
A combined pocket knife and tweezers comprising opposite side members with a back spring connected thereto having on one end an enlargement to provide a shoulder on its terminal, said tweezers made in section and spaced from each other at their ends having a T-shaped shank secured be tween the ends of the side members, said shank having a. projection which is pivoted between the side members, said side members being extended to permit of such pivotal connection, the shank having a shoulder on one of its bars: which is adapted to contact with the shoulder on the terminal of the enlargement on said back spring when the tweezers are in an open position, said projection of the shank also adapted to contact with said enlargement when the tweezers are in an open position, a knife blade pivoted between the side members at the other end of the handle, and said tweezers when closed within the handle having their jaws arranged on opposite sides of said blade.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
