PAPER 150x ron CULTURE-TUBES AND sminnn ARTICLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application filed 'January 30, 1912. Serial No. 674,277.
To all it may concern Beit known that I, PHINEAs B. MYnns,
a citizen of-the United States, residing at Morristown, county of Morris, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Paper Box for-Culture-Tubes and 'Similar Articles, of which the following is .same to be readily inserted and removed.
In the accompanying drawing! Figure 1 is a perspective view of a paper box embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section thereof; Fig. 3 a Ian of the box blank, and Fig. 4 a'plan 0' the insert blank.
The box is of oblong form and provided in proximity to one of its ends 10 with a vertical transverse partition 11 thatdivides oil a pocket 12 adapted to contain the swabs 13 that aresup'ported on the bottom 14 of the box. The larger compartment 15 formed between partition 11 and the other end 16 of the-box is provided with a false bottom 17, a to plate 18 sunk below the upperedge of t e box, and a partition 19 arranged between said top plate and the false bottom 17. Top 18 and partition-19 are provided with a plurality of vertically alined apertures adapted to accommodate the culture tubes 20. The lower ends of these tubes are supported upon the false bottom 17 in such a way that the heads of the tubes are received within the space above top 18.- Owing to the construction described, the swabs as well as the tubes ex-. tend upwardly to aboutthe same level beneath the box cover 21, so as to be readily accessible though the length of the swabs exceeds the length of the tubes, such difference in length being compensated for by the elevation of false bottom 17 above-box bottom 14.
The box is composed of two blanks only, the first blank going to form the box proper together with artition 11, while the second blank goes to orm an insert embodying the vided with the upright scored lines a, b, c, d, e, f and 9 that divide the blank into 8 Patented Apr. 2, 1912.
false bottom 17 together with top 18 and partition 19. The box blank proper is proupright strips 22; 11; 23; 10; 24; 16; 25
and 26. Strips 10, 24 and 16 extend above and below the other stripsand are by horizontally scored lines h, z, j and is divided into upper flaps 21, 27, 28, 29 and lower flaps 14, 30, 31 and'32. The blank is first folded on the upright lines in such a manner that partition 11 is placed into parallelism to box ends 10, 16 and secured by its gluing tab' 22 to the box-back 24, while box front 25 is secured to end piece 10 by folded, tab 26. The top and bottom of the box are then formed by the upwardly and downwardly projecting flaps in the usual manner.
The insert blank is of oblong shape and provided with the scored lines Z, m, n, 0, p, g, 1' and s dividing the same into a series of parallel strips 33, 34, 35, 1s, 3s, 17, 37, 19 and 38. Upon the scored lines the blank is so folded that the top 18, partition 19, false bottom 17 and atrue bottom 34' are brought into horizontal positions directly belowone another, while strip 35 constitutes one of the sides, strips 36, 33 when overlapped and pasted together jointly consti tute the other (side, and strip 38 constitutes the tab that is glued to the inner: side of strip 86.
The insert constitutes a complete structure in itself which may be readily fitted 'into the main compartment 15 of the box when the device is to be assembled and used. During transportation or storage, the box and insert .remain separated and each may be folded into a flat form so as to occupy
