Be it known thatI, OEAUNCY, 0. CROSBY, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in- Paper Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following,

when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, andwhich said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent in'- Figures 1, 2,-and 3, mannerof folding the paper; Figure 4, a perspective view of the box; and in Figure 5, a veitical'central section. This invention relates to an improvement in paper boxes, the object being to dispense with the necessary useoi' paste; and

The invention consists in the eons tmction of a box from a sheet of paper, the partssecnrecl together by the process of folding. V

From a sheet of paper or board I cut into the form seen in-fig. 3, the broken lines indicating where the paper is to be turned to form the angles, and where the folds are to be made.

The angles 1 1 1 1 are cutaway as amatter of convenience, and not of necessity, so that the portion 2 will be not more in length than one-half the width of the box. h

The paper is slitted on the line 3 3 3, then the sides 4 4, with their connected parts 2 2, are turned up, and

the parts 2 2 turned inward, to form a right angle; then the parts 5 6 turned'up at each end, so that the part 6 rests against the parts 2 2, then the part- 5 turned down ,"over the parts 2 2'into the box, as seen in figs. 4 and 5, .it being of sntiioient depth to ektend to the bottom of the boxg; then an indentation, 7, is made in the bottom,"at the end of the part 5, as seen in figs. 4 and 5, which holds the two parts 5 firmly 11 place, and securely binds the box togetherr Theindentat'rons are represented as forined'upon the bottom ofithe box, but thesame result is accoin plished by indenting'the sides, so as to project a portionofithesides dver the turned-down part in like manner as represented for the bottom.

I claim, as my invention A box constructed from a single piece of material, cut, folded, and secured by indentation of the'material, in the manner substantially as set forth.
