Claims (18)
- A method for producing films, preferably security films for papers of value, consisting of a translucent carrier film and a cover layer applied thereto having coating-free areas in the form of letters, numbers, signs, dots and/or patterns, etc., that are clearly recognizable in particular in transmitted light, characterized by the following steps:a) providing the carrier film;b) printing the carrier film with letters, numbers, signs, dots and/or patterns, etc.;c) using printing ink with a high pigment content;d) drying the printing ink to form a porous, raised inking;e) forming a thin cover layer on the printed carrier film that is noncontiguous due to the porous, raised inking in the printed area;f) removing the inking and the cover layer located on the inking or having penetrated into the inking in the printed areas of the carrier film by washing them out with a liquid, possibly combined with mechanical action;g) drying the carrier film and optionally cutting it to size.
- A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the cover layer is a metal layer, for example an aluminum or nickel layer.
- A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the carrier film is provided in the form of an endless band and the method is carried out continuously.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the printing ink is water-soluble and water is used for washing out.
- A method according to claim 4, characterized in that the printing ink contains starch, polyvinyl alcohol or carboxymethylcellulose as a binder.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the pigments selected are natural raw materials, preferably selected from the group of chalk, bentonite, Aerosil and titanium dioxide.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the pigment content in the dry printing ink is at least 10 wt. %.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the pigment particles have an average equivalent diameter of 0.1 to 15 microns.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the printing of the carrier film is done by gravure printing.
- A method according to any of claims 2 to 9, characterized in that the forming of the metal layer is done by vapor-deposition.
- A method according to claim 10, characterized in that the thickness of the vapor-deposited metal layer is about 0.1 microns.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 11, characterized in that washing out is supported by mechanical means, such as a rotating cylinder, brush or ultrasound.
- A method according to any of claims 1 to 12, characterized in that the carrier film is cut in step g) of claim 1 into security threads having a width of no more than 5 millimeters.
- A method for producing a paper of value, characterized in that a security film produced by a method according to at least one of claims 1 to 13 is embedded into the paper of value during production of the paper of value.
- A method according to claim 14, characterized in that the paper of value is produced of two paper layers, and the security film is embedded between the paper layers.
- A film to be embedded in or applied to papers of value, consisting of a translucent carrier film and a metallic coating applied thereto having metal-free areas that are clearly recognizable in particular in transmitted light, characterized by a halftone image, the light areas of the image being represented by a low screen density on the otherwise translucent carrier film and the dark areas of the image by a high screen density and the screen dots being formed by metal deposits.
- A film according to claim 16, produced by the method according to one or more of claims 1 to 13.
- A paper of value produced by the method according to claim 14 or 15, having embedded therein a security film produced by the method according to at least one of claims 1 to 13.
