Ausgehend von der Erkenntnis, daß ein aus einer Stranggußeinrichtung kommendes, direkt der Kompakt-Walzgruppe zugeführtes Vorprofil nur eine begrenzte Anzahl von daraus zu walzenden Fertigprofilen unterschiedlicher Abmessungen zuläßt wurde bereits vorgeschlagen (EP-A-265 757) Fertigprofile mit bedeutend größeren Endabmessungsunterschieden aus einem einzigen, unveränderten Stranggußausgangsprofil in ein und derselben Kompakt-Walzgruppe dadurch zu walzen, daß dieses Vorprofil in einem der Kompakt-Walzgruppe unmittelbar vorgeordneten Stauchgerüst z. B. durch Beaufschlagung des stegartigen Abschnitts bzw. der flanschartigen Verstärkungen des Vorprofils reduzierend walzverformt und dann in die Kompakt-Walzgruppe eingebracht wurde. Hierdurch ließ sich der stegartige Abschnitt des Vorprofils entweder durch Stauchen verkürzen oder auch, gegebenenfalls unter Einbeziehung von fließbaren Verstärkungen verlängern und auch gegebenenfalls die Breite der flanschartigen Verstärkungen reduzieren. Die dem Stauchgerüst unmittelbar nachgeordnete Kompakt-Walzgruppe konnte bei diesem bekannten Verfahren teilweise zu der reduzierenden Verformung des Vorprofils herangezogen werden z.
