Description

The invention relates to an oil filter for cleaning lubricating oil, especially for internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Such an oil filter is known from DE-A-3 538 589, the known oil filter also having a drainage channel which is closed when the oil filter cartridge is attached and opened when the oil filter cartridge is removed in order to allow the residual oil to drain off in the filter housing.

Furthermore, an embodiment of the known oil filter is characterized in that the oil filter cartridge is latched to an upper housing cover. The design is such that the holder of the oil filter cartridge can be snapped on at the end on a longitudinal projection of the housing cover, a thickening and a narrowing preventing unwanted loosening and basically allowing these parts to be separated so that the housing cover can be used multiple times.

Even if the known oil filter has proven to be particularly advantageous when sealing the discharge channel and also an advance over previous oil filters is achieved in that the oil filter cartridge is removed from the cover when the cartridge is changed, so that the cover can be used several times, it becomes a disadvantage felt that the release of the cartridge from the lid must be done by grasping both parts with your hands, and experience has shown that the person doing the work gets soiled with waste oil.

For this reason it has happened that the prescribed cartridge change was not carried out because the dirty work was avoided.

An oil filter according to DE-C-3 543 437 is also known. With this lubricating oil filter for internal combustion engines with an interchangeable filter insert, a main housing part to be covered with a removable bell-shaped housing cover, which is connected to the main housing part by means of a central screw, greater stresses in the plastic housing cover are to be avoided. This is achieved in that the screw is provided with a stop which has the effect that the screw stroke is limited when the screw is tightened. A radial seal is provided for mutual sealing of the main housing part and the housing cover. In order to prevent the housing cover from collapsing at its open end, a metal support ring rests on its inner circumference.

An embodiment of this oil filter provides that at the closed end of the housing cover inside for holding the filter insert axially inwardly projecting, resilient ribs connected to the housing cover and provided with recesses for clamping reception of the filter insert are provided.

The disadvantage of this oil filter is, however, that the filter cartridge is built deep into the bell-shaped cover, so that it is very difficult to remove when changing the cartridge and only possible with the use of suitable tools, so that the risk of oil contamination is even greater than with the oil filter described first .

It is therefore the task of creating an oil filter of the type mentioned that the listed Avoids disadvantages and which is particularly inexpensive to manufacture and use.

This object is achieved according to the invention by an oil filter of the type mentioned, which is characterized in that
the screw cap and the filter cartridge are locked together to enable transmission of axial forces from both directions to the filter cartridge, wherein
the screw cap has on its inside a plurality of spring tongues with locking projections arranged on a circle and projecting into the filter interior and
the filter cartridge has at its end on the cover side a circular, matching locking recess that fits the locking projections, the spring tongues projecting to the bottom of the locking recess.

The surprising effect of the invention is that when changing the filter cartridge, the operator only has to grasp the lid with the filter cartridge fastened to it with one hand, the filter cartridge is supported diagonally with the free end on a base and the filter cartridge is pressed by hand detaches from the grid, whereby the filter cartridge is not touched, and whereupon the filter cartridge falls off.

The invention is explained below with reference to two drawings. The drawings show in
Figure 1
an oil filter with an inserted filter cartridge in longitudinal section and in
Figure 2
an enlarged view of the cover-side portion of the oil filter.

As FIG. 1 shows, the oil filter 1 essentially consists of a filter housing 2 with a base 20, an exchangeable oil filter cartridge 6 inserted into the housing 2 and a screw cap 7 closing the housing on the top side. The longitudinal axis of the filter housing 2 runs obliquely upwards, so that there is an approximately upright position of the filter housing 2. The base 20 of the filter housing 2 is angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the housing 2 and ends in a substantially vertically running flange surface 20 ', which serves to connect the oil filter 1 to an internal combustion engine (not shown) of a motor vehicle. Furthermore, the base 20 serves, as indicated by flow arrows, for the supply and discharge of oil. Dirty oil passes through an oil inlet 21 in the rear, upper part of the base 20 into an inlet space 23 surrounding the filter cartridge 6 and is distributed there over the circumference of the cartridge 6. After flowing through the filter cartridge 6, more precisely its filter material body 60, this now collects cleaned oil in the inner area 24 of the filter 1 and flows from there - according to the flow arrows shown - through a central oil outlet 22 and the base 20 again. The inlet space 23 and the inner region 24 of the oil filter 1 are separated from one another by a sealing ring 62, preferably made of rubber, on the lower end 64 of the filter cartridge 6 by the cover 7 on the upper end 63 of the cartridge 6.

In the lower part of the base 20 there is a drainage channel 25, which serves that in the housing 2 of the oil filter Derive any oil present when replacing the filter cartridge 6. In contrast, in normal operation of the oil filter 1, ie when the filter cartridge 6 is inserted, the discharge channel 25 is blocked.

With reference to FIG. 2, the filter cartridge 6 and the screw cap 7 are detachably connected to one another in the oil filter 1. For this purpose, the screw cap 7 has a plurality of spring tongues 71 and 71 'on its inside 70, two of which are visible. The spring tongues 71 and 71 'are arranged on a circle concentric to the longitudinal axis of the filter housing 2 and project from the inside of the cover 70 into the interior of the filter housing 2. At their inner end, the spring tongues 71 and 71' have outwardly projecting latching projections 72 and 72 ', the filter cartridge 6 inserted into the housing 2 engage in a matching, waisted locking recess 65 in the upper end face 63 of the filter cartridge 6. This ensures that axial forces can be transmitted from the screw cap 7 to the filter cartridge 6 in both directions and that the filter cartridge 6 can be easily and environmentally friendly removed from the screw cap 7 by folding. The screw cap 7 is connected to the filter housing 2 in the exemplary embodiment of the oil filter 1 shown here with the interposition of a sealing ring 73 by screwing.
