Abstract

The invention is directed to an overcurrent-protective switch for household appliances such as a vacuum cleaner. The snap switch has a housing in which a contact mounting unit is mounted at one end of the housing and contains one of two current terminals of the switch. The other current terminal is mounted at the other end of the housing and is configured to define a contact-engaging surface. A resilient interrupting contact member is fixedly connected to the one current terminal and has a metal center strip by means of which it is held in one of two end positions. In the first end position, the contact member is held in contact engagement with the contact-engaging surface of the other current contact terminal and, in the second end position, it is disengaged from the contact-engaging surface. When the center resistance strip is cool, the contact member is in its first position and the current circuit between the two current terminals is closed. On the other hand, when excessive current passes through the center strip, the latter heats and expands causing the contact member to snap over into the second position to interrupt the current circuit between the two current terminals. A reset plunger returns the contact member to its first position.

Description

The invention relates to an overcurrent protection snap-action switch for household appliances, in particular floor care devices, with one-sided fixed contact, which at the same time contains the power connection and with an interrupter contact part on the other hand, the contact system also being designed as a power connection and the contact spring being held in one of two end positions by means of a metal center strip , by the metal central strip being subjected to tension, is designed as a resistance element and the metal edge strips are prestressed, so that when the resistance element is cold, the contacts engage and when the resistance element heats up due to current flow, the contacts snap into a de-energized position with separation and the original element cools down after the resistance element has cooled Contact position can be restored by means of an externally actuated reset button.

Such overcurrent protection snap switches have the purpose of suddenly protecting household appliances, in particular floor care devices, from overcurrent damage when the electric motor is blocked, by automatically interrupting the power supply immediately and restoring the normal operating state only after manual reset.

Such overcurrent protection snap-action switches are known from DE-PS 1 513 242. This document describes such a switch of the type mentioned at the outset, in which two movable contact arms are arranged in parallel, the ends of which are on the one hand in a two-part receptacle and which are free floating opposite side carries a contact. Here, the thin center tongue is electrically conductive at a connection point, but is only positively fixed. The contact side transmits via spring contact via a contact the electrical energy to the second connection point. Here, the thin center tongue forms an electrical resistance element which expands in accordance with the value exceeding the nominal current and can snap the free contact from its first end position into the de-energized position with the contact pieces separated. The reset is carried out by means of a reset that can be operated manually from the outside.

However, such a solution has the disadvantage that when such an overcurrent protection snap-in switch is used in a floor care device, the thin center tongue is often electrically and mechanically destroyed, since the normal area of use of such safety devices is in hi-fi or electronics. If one assumes that a floor care device is blocked once a week by objects or carpet fringes and that there is a current load of approx. 2.5 A at 220 V, this leads to approx. 52 switching operations per year. Due to the necessary thin center tongue, which brings about the snap switching of the contacts and the electrical load does not always jump securely onto the contacts provided for this during the switching process of the switching arc, but partly on the front area of the thin center tongue, which is then "welded through". At least, however, it is so badly damaged that the thin central web breaks mechanically at this point during the next "normal" switching operation.

The invention has for its object to provide an overcurrent protection snap-action switch of the type mentioned, which, while avoiding the aforementioned shortcomings, grants a safe, long-lasting switching duration in the devices mentioned above, the arc occurring only being conducted to the designated locations and the mechanical stress on the thin central tongue is reduced.

This object is achieved in accordance with the characterizing part of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the invention are described in the subsequent subclaims.

An example according to the invention is to be illustrated and described in more detail below with reference to the drawings.

According to Fig. 1, the contact spring (1) finds its position in the adjustable contact receptacle (14), which consists of the contact bottom (14a) and the contact top (14b). Between the two there is a split prism hole (15) in the rear area Adjusting mandrels (16) of different diameters are introduced in order to keep the contact area (27) constant. In Fig. 2 the front view of the contacting underside (14a) is shown. The U-shaped outer webs (2a, 2b) of the contact spring (1) are inserted into the receptacles (13a, 13b) flattened on one side and held in a form-fitting manner. The thin center tongue (3) then lies in the V-shaped notch (28) and is hung behind the upper part of the connection pole (24) in the contact area (27) with the retaining web (2a), so that the contact spring (1) is mechanically defined is held in the adjustable contact receptacle (14) and is connected in an electrically conductive manner to the connection pole (24). On the opposite side, the contact spring (1) is kept free and carries on its contact support surface (6) the contact (7), with its contact support surface (6ʹ), which in its working end position lies against the front area (10) of the contact tongue (9) and so on guarantees the current flow to the connection pole (25).

Hierdurch wird erzielt, daß der Lichtbogen (18) sich nicht in Richtung der dünnen Mittelzunge (3) hin bewegen kann.1 to 3, an overcurrent protection switch (19) according to the invention is shown, in which the contact spring (1), the adjustable contact (14) and the fixed contact side (9) with the associated mating contact (7) are installed on the inside. The contact (14) is supported against a base (20) and carries a return spring (21) for the reset button (22) in the abutment area (20a). This reset button (22) is recessed in the area of the thin center tongue (3) so that its longer side webs (23) come into contact with the U-shaped outer webs (2a, 2b) of the contact spring (1) when the button (22) is pressed reach. As a result, the outer webs (2a, 2b) are pressed down, whereas the thin central web (3) is held in the contact (14). With a corresponding pressure path, the outer webs (2a, 2b) snap through and the contact (7) closes with the fixed contact tongue (9), so that an electrical contact is established between the connection poles (24 and 25). If the current flow through the contact spring (1) increases as a result of a fault in the consumer (not shown here), the thin central tongue (3) heats up due to resistance and expands out. As a result of the resilience of the outer webs (2a, 2b), the contact spring (1) snaps back into the previous state and separates the contacts (9) and (7) from one another. As can be seen, the molding (4) in the U-bottom (5) of the outer webs (2a, 2b) is subjected to bending. At the same time - in the absence of the features according to the invention - in the front area (10) of the contact tongue (9), due to the formation of the electric field E occurring, the arc (18) can jump over the thin central tongue (3) in an uncontrolled manner - shown in FIG and 5 -. In order to avoid this, the contact support surface (6) of the contact (7) is designed in the shape of a spherical segment and the front area (10) of the contact tongue (9) is surrounded by an insulating piece (11) molded integrally on the switch housing (12). This ensures that the arc (18) cannot move in the direction of the thin center tongue (3).

Figure imgb0001
= e -e (
Figure imgb0002
+
Figure imgb0003
×

).
Due to the presence of a magnetic field B, the Lorentz force also acts on the moving electrons according to the equation
Figure imgb0001

Figure imgb0002

).
The stronger the magnetic field B is, the more the electrons are deflected by V (or E). In order to prevent arcing or to avoid arcing, a field of a spark guide magnet 17, 17 'in the form of a permanent magnet is introduced, which runs as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. The spark guide magnets (17, 17ʺ) can, however, also be designed as electromagnets which are connected to the circuit in such a way that the field and current direction run in the same direction.
