Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a protective helmet, usable in combination with a respiratory mask, this helmet itself comprising a rigid cap and an inner cap having flexible transverse bands whose lateral parts converge at points symmetrical with respect to the plane longitudinal median of the helmet. This helmet is intended more particularly, although not exclusively, for firefighters, soldiers, law enforcement and civil protection ..., and more generally to all persons likely to use a respiratory mask simultaneously with a helmet.
It has already been proposed to attach a respiratory mask to a helmet, and not to the head, by means of a mooring system, but this idea can only be validly implemented if the helmet has been previously positioned with great precision on the head of the user, so that the respiratory mask does not overlap the helmet and that the seal is properly ensured around the periphery of the mask, which cannot be guaranteed with current helmets. On the other hand, there is no known system allowing the adaptation of the respiratory mask on the helmet in a very short time, in a simple and safe manner, and without the need to remove the helmet.
The present invention overcomes these drawbacks, by providing that the cap of the protective helmet is provided externally and on each side, in the zone of convergence of the lateral parts of the transverse bands of the cap, with hooking notches for mooring fixing arms articulated on either side of a respiratory mask and provided with a resettable tensioning system, the free ends of these arms being provided with hooks cooperating respectively with said notches. These means allow the rapid fitting of the respiratory mask on the helmet which remains in place on the head and is simply provided with two notches which can come from molding in the lateral zones of the cap. As a variant, the hooking notches can result from parts attached to the cap of the helmet, made of a material resistant to wear, and possibly interchangeable.
In all cases, the concordance of the points of attachment of the arms for fixing the respiratory mask with the points of convergence of the directions of tension of the transverse bands of the cap makes it possible to obtain a constant tension of the arms, therefore a constant sealing of the mask. respiratory, even in the event of violent movements of the user or impacts on the helmet which could cause the helmet to move forward or backward relative to the head. By pivoting around the axis determined by the points of convergence, the helmet, in its movement, does not change the length of the arms moored at the same points. The effort with which the mask is pressed on the face, and therefore the tightness of this mask, will be constant.
According to a particular embodiment, each attachment arm of the respiratory mask comprises two tubular elements mounted to slide one inside the other and connected together by an internal spring tending to make them penetrate one into the other, the outer tubular element being articulated to the mask and its end remote from the mask constituting a cocking stop, while on the inner tubular element is articulated the hook, extended beyond its articulation by a tab with a part which is provided for cooperate with the arming stopper and another part which, cooperating with the wall of the helmet, constitutes a trigger profile.
The tensioning mechanism with its arming system is thus carried by the mask, in order to strip the helmet as much as possible, the use of the mask remaining occasional. To arm, the user stretches both arms until the hook tab is retained on the arming stopper; an internal cable can limit the stretching of the arms and avoid the separation of the two tubular elements. By folding the two arms against the sides of the helmet, the user triggers, which allows the arms to retract under the effect of their springs so that the hooks come to cooperate with the corresponding notches. Stop means, provided on the one hand on the outer tube and on the other hand on the tab extending the hook, can then block the mask.
Other characteristics of the invention described later relate to the structure of the cap, allowing its precise positioning on the head of the user and ensuring excellent support in a precise position, so that the respiratory mask does not come up against the edges front of the helmet and that the seal is properly ensured.

In Figures 1 to 3 is shown a protective helmet, for example a helmet for firefighters, which comprises a rigid protective cap (1) inside which is disposed a deformable cap (2), which is the part fitting on the user's head. This protective helmet is designed to be able to be used at the same time as a respiratory mask (3) covering the entire face and comprising a goggle (4) - see Figures 1 and 2.
As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the cap (2) of the helmet comprises a band holder (5), fixed inside the cap (1) at six points (6) and comprising between these points guides ( 7) crossed by a strip (8) of length adjustable by any means depending on the user's head circumference. The cap (2) further comprises a deformable assembly composed of three transverse bands (9,10,11) and a longitudinal band (12), this assembly being made of flexible but non-elastic material: fabric, leather, or combination of fabric and leather.
The longitudinal flexible band (12), intended to envelop the user's head exactly according to its profile, has its anterior end moored in an adjustable manner, for example by means of a self-locking loop (13) - see FIG. 3 , to that of the fixing points (6) located in the front area of the cap (1) and of the band holder (5). The rear end of the longitudinal flexible strip (12), devoid of adjustment means, is fixed in the occipital zone of the cap (4) by means of a semi-rigid connecting piece (14), which can be held on the cap (1) using the fixing point (6) rear of the headband holder (5). This semi-rigid part (14) avoids partial overturning of the cap (4) and in particular of the posterior transverse band (11), when the helmet is placed on the head.
The middle parts of the three transverse flexible strips (9,10,11) cross the longitudinal flexible strip (12) at right angles, to which they are linked so as to form a single piece. In the embodiment considered here, and as shown more particularly in FIG. 2, the lateral parts of the three transverse flexible bands (9,10,11) end on each side with three self-locking loops (respectively: 15,16,17 ), individually fixed inside the cap (1). The three loops (15,16,17) are arranged in an arc of a circle, so that the directions of the three bands (9,10,11) in the lateral parts converge at the same point (18), located slightly in front of the ear, the region of which remains clear, which allows the headphones to be fitted with headphones. All this arrangement and in particular the position of the two points (18) is obviously symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal median plane of the helmet.
- - par action simultanée sur le réglage de la bande transversale antérieure (9) et de la bande transversale centrale (10), d'élever ou d'abaisser le casque par rapport à la tête ;
- - by simultaneous action on the adjustment of the front transverse band (9) and the central transverse band (10), to raise or lower the helmet relative to the head;
- - by simultaneous action on the adjustment of the central transverse band (10) and the posterior transverse band (11), to move the helmet forward or backward relative to the head.
These adjustments, made once and for all with those of the headband (8) and the chin strap (19), allow optimum maintenance of the helmet, in particular for the adaptation of the respiratory mask (3) by the means which will be described later.
In a variant making it possible to obtain the same results, the converging lateral flanges of the three flexible bands (9,10,11) of the cap are not individually moored to the cap (1), but pass through on each side, as shown FIG. 4, two concentric self-locking lights (20, 21) formed in a rigid lateral disc (22), for example a metal disc, having a central opening (18 ′) by which it is fixed inside the cap ( 1). Each of the two discs (22) may also include, in its part facing downwards, another light in an arc (23) allowing the fixing and the orientation of the chin strap (19).
The cap (1) of the helmet externally comprises, for the adaptation of the respiratory mask (3), two substantially vertical hooking notches (24) formed on each side of this cap, in the zone of convergence of the lateral parts of the three bands transverse (9,10,11) of the cap (2). To be able to be moored on these notches (24), the respiratory mask (3) is provided with two fixing arms (25), articulated respectively on two parts (26) fixed on either side of the hoop (27) of its bezel (4); the length of the parts (26) is such that it fixes the spacing of the two arms (25) at a value allowing them to pass easily on either side of the cap (1) of the helmet.
The structure of each of the fixing arms (25) is more particularly shown in Figures 5 to 7. The arm (25) comprises two tubular elements (28,29), one of which is slidably mounted inside the other where a telescopic structure. The outer tubular element (28) is located in front and articulated, along an axis (30), on the part (26) while on the inner tubular element (29), located behind, is articulated a hook (31 ), pivoting around an axis (32). The two axes (30,32) are interconnected by a helical spring (33), housed inside the two tubular elements (28,29) and tending to make these two elements penetrate one into the other. An internal cable (34) also connects the two axes (30,32), passing through the spring (33), so as to limit the exit of the element (29) from the element (28), therefore the arm stretch (25).
Dans cette position définitive, illustrée par la figure 7, des moyens d'arrêt tels que des crans avec rampes (42,43), prévus d'une part sur l'élément tubulaire extérieur (28) et d'autre part sur la patte (37) qui prolonge le crochet (31), assurent un blocage du masque respiratoire (3).Initially, each arm (25) is "armed" by pulling the inner tubular member (29) out of the outer tubular member (28), which tends the spring (33), and by immobilizing the two elements (28,29) relative to one another by the following means: the end of the outer tubular element (28) distant from the axis (30) forms a cocking stop (35), which cooperates with a retaining notch (36) belonging to a lug (37) which extends the hook (31) beyond its articulation axis (32) - see Figure 5. The two arms (25) being thus armed, the user folds them simultaneously against the two sides of the helmet, as indicated by an arrow (38). At the moment when each arm (25) comes into contact with the wall of the helmet, a part (39) of the tab (37) of the hook (31), constituting trigger profile, cooperates with this wall so as to pivot the hook (31) in the direction indicated by an arrow (40) - see Figure 6. The retaining notch (36) then escapes the arming stop (35) and, under the effect of the traction exerted by the spring (33), the fixing arm (35) retracts as indicated by an arrow (41), until the hook (31) comes to cooperate with the notch (24). In this final position, illustrated by FIG. 7, stop means such as notches with ramps (42,43), provided on the one hand on the external tubular element (28) and on the other hand on the tab (37) which extends the hook (31), ensures a blockage of the respiratory mask (3).
The mask (3) is thus blocked on the helmet, and it is correctly positioned relative to the face thanks to the adjustments previously made on the cap (2) of the helmet. This gives a correct seal, avoiding the mask (3) and in particular the strapping (27) of its scope (4) from abutting against the edge of the helmet, advantageously provided with a flexible seal (44), such that a tubular foam rubber seal, which comes to rest on the mask, will provide protection against various projections likely to penetrate inside the helmet, this flexible seal (44) not interfering with the passage of the peripheral lip of the mask (3) during its installation.
In another embodiment, illustrated by FIGS. 8 and 9, the cap (2) is simplified and consists on the one hand of a pad or more advantageously of two half-pads (45) on which the forehead comes to bear. and part of the user's temples, and secondly, associated with these pads (45) three transverse bands (9,10,11) adjustable in perimeter by loops or hook-and-loop tapes (15,16, 17) which allow the cap to be adjusted to the size of the user and the position of the helmet in height relative to the head.
Thanks to the front support on the pads (45), whatever the head size of the user, his face will always have substantially the same position relative to the front face (46) of the helmet.
This avoids, in particular for small turns of the head, a setback of the face inside the helmet which risks causing the respiratory mask (3) to come up against its rigid part (27) on the front face (46) of the helmet. , thus affecting the tightness of the respiratory mask.
By acting on the adjustment of the anterior (9) and central (10) transverse bands, the helmet is raised or lowered. By acting on the adjustment of the posterior band (11) which encloses the nape of the neck, the forehead is pressed against the pads (45) thus regulating the head circumference at the same time and ensuring, thanks to this band (11) resting on the good resistance of the helmet to loosening.
These three transverse bands (9,10,11) therefore effectively replace here the more complete cap with band and longitudinal band of the first embodiment, but they always contribute substantially at the same point (18) which corresponds to the area of mooring of the tensioning arms (25) for fixing the respiratory mask (3) adaptable to the helmet. Note that the hooking notches (24) that includes the cap (1) of the helmet, for the mooring of the arms (25), in the present case form a certain angle with the vertical. The structure of the arms (25) and their operation are not changed.
This helmet can also include, as shown in FIG. 9, a mobile retractable double screen, namely: a first screen (47) said eye screen capable of being brought by pivoting before the eyes of the user, and a second screen (48) said face shield capable of being brought by pivoting into a lowered position completely covering the face of the user. When they are raised, the two screens (47, 48) are housed under the cap (1), between the latter and an internal part (49); the face shield (48) then remains partially projecting from the front of the helmet to form a visor, while the eye shield (47) is fully retracted, between the face shield (48) and the internal part (49 ) secured to the cap (1).
