Definitions
- the invention relates to a fuel injector for internal combustion engines, as specified in the preamble of claim 1.
- the partial solution was to use ultrasound to atomize inadequately atomized fuel.
- the other possible solutions are to constructively connect the element that is to be ultrasonically vibrated for fuel atomization to the fuel injector in order to atomize the fuel emerging from the fuel injector as soon as it emerges.
- the injection end of the injection nozzle is accordingly designed as an ultrasonic liquid atomizer.
- the usual structure of an injection nozzle which has been tried and tested over many years, can be retained, for example with a pear-shaped thickened front end of the nozzle needle.
- the structural design in which the ejection opening of the nozzle, through which the front end of the adjustable nozzle needle protrudes, is designed as an atomizer element which surrounds the fuel outlet in a ring.
- a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention is that in which the injection nozzle, which is known in principle, is designed at its front nozzle end as a liquid atomizer according to German Patent 20 32 433.
- the nozzle bore, in which the adjustable nozzle needle known to be used is located, is arranged in the axis of the body of this liquid atomizer known from the abovementioned patent, one of which Central bore of the working plate of this atomizer, which acts as a vibrating plate, is the passage opening for the nozzle needle and for the escaping fuel. The escaping fuel thus comes into direct contact with the high-amplitude working plate on which the liquid is atomized.
- the surface of the worktop of the liquid atomizer i.e. the surface of the vibrating atomizer element, grooved, in particular provided with grooves running in the radial direction.
- 1 denotes a portion of an engine block in which the piston 2 is located. With 3 the inlet valve is designated. This closes the interior 4 of the cylinder against the intake duct 5.
- 6 designates a fuel injection nozzle, as is already installed in gasoline injection engines according to the prior art.
- the supply line for the control pulses is designated by 7, with the aid of which the nozzle needle of the injection nozzle 6 is controlled, as is known.
- the fuel supply line in the nozzle 6 is designated 8.
- the fuel in line 8 is at a substantially constant pressure of approximately 2 bar.
- FIG. 2 shows a first embodiment of a fuel injection nozzle 6 according to the invention, as is provided in the arrangement according to FIG.
- the known magnetic core 12 is located within the housing 11 and is pressed with the aid of a spring 13 in the left-hand direction 14 (in FIG. 2).
- the nozzle needle 15 is pressed with its needle seat 16 against a nozzle seat 17.
- This described state corresponds to a closed injection nozzle 6, that is to say a state in which no fuel which is fed through the line 8 under pressure into the interior of the housing 11 passes through the nozzle opening 17.
- the nozzle is just open.
- the injection nozzle according to the invention can also have a pear-shaped extension of the nozzle needle 15 which projects beyond the left-hand (front) nozzle end.
- This pear-shaped extension 20 serves, among other things. for shaping the injection jet.
- the ultrasonic liquid atomizer is referred to, as it is known in principle from the German patent 20 32 433.
- the conical metal part is designated by 22, on the larger rear side of which a disk 23 made of piezoceramic (for example made of lead zirconate titanate) is firmly attached, for example glued or soldered on End of part 22 is located.
- Ultrasonic liquid atomization of the amount of fuel that has reached this surface takes place on the surface 25 of the worktop 24. This is where the amount of fuel that leaks or drips from the nozzle after each individual injection cycle, which is currently in idle mode (and in Push operation) accounts for a significant amount of the total amount of fuel injected in a very low dose per injection market.
- the surface 25 preferably has grooves running in the radial direction, with the aid of which an improved wetting of this surface 25 with fuel is made possible.
- a closed retaining ring is designated, which is attached to the part 22 in the vibration node of the atomizer and, as shown, merges into the housing 11 on its outer edge.
- the part 22 has a bore 27 along the axis of the rotationally symmetrical atomizer 21.
- a matching bore also has the plate 23 made of piezoceramic, which is thus an annular plate.
- the bore 27 merges into the already mentioned bore 13 in the worktop 24.
- the line 30 is connected to an electrode 31 which is located on the free disk surface of the ceramic disk 23. This is e.g. a silvering layer of the ceramic surface.
- the electrical excitation alternating field lies in the ceramic disk 23 in the direction of the thickness of the disk.
- the piezoelectric effect leads to a bending vibration of the system consisting of the part 22 and the plate 23. This bending vibration is transmitted to the worktop 24, as described in detail in the German patent specification 20 32 433 as prior art.
- the worktop 24 of the embodiment according to FIG. 2 advantageously surrounds the nozzle opening 18 in a ring.
- FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of an injection nozzle according to the invention, which is the same in the known parts of an injection nozzle as that in FIG. 2, but in which the ultrasonic liquid atomizer 121 is a longitudinal oscillator.
- the remaining details of the embodiment according to FIG. 3 correspond to the embodiment according to FIG. 2 already described.
- the fuel supply through line 18 is continuous and is controlled by the operation of the injection nozzle in accordance with the cycle of engine 1.
- Fuel injection takes place during the excitation of the magnetic winding 19, i.e. when the nozzle cross-section between the seats 16 and 17 is open. If the fuel injection quantity is only very small, a significant proportion of this quantity is due to drops and leaks at the nozzle outlet 18 in the case of a known injection nozzle. In the injection nozzle according to the invention, however, this fuel is also atomized finely on the worktop 24, 124.
- the atomizer 21, 121 vibrates continuously.
- the vibration is only excited at the time of the injection.
- the transducer may be out of order.
- This operation with pauses between the phases of the vibration operation provided according to a feature of the invention is advantageous if the vibrator has a particularly long service life, e.g. much longer than 10,000 hours.
- An injection nozzle as in accordance with the invention can be operated in such a way that a minimal dose of fuel is continuously supplied to it, ie the surface 25, 124 of the worktop 24, even without the known spray effect occurring.
- This minimum dose is dimensioned such that it corresponds to the minimum quantity currently required for idling.
- a continuous or pulsed vibration excitation that is matched to the intake stroke of the engine can then be provided.
- an injection nozzle according to the invention is also suitable for providing an idling operation of the engine, which is controlled as a function of the respective current operating conditions.
- a so-called map control can be carried out, in which the only small amount of fuel supplied during idle operation is adapted to the current requirements, namely e.g. depending on whether the engine is still cold or already warm, whether the intake air is more or less humid and / or whether the load on the crankshaft is larger or smaller, e.g. B, with the transmission running, with the clutch engaged or disengaged or when the air conditioning system is switched on.
- a basic arrangement is also added (dashed).
- the map control computer is designated by 51.
- the crankshaft or camshaft position of the engine is signaled via line 52.
- the inputs 53 and 54 are provided for entering temperature values and the speed values of the motor, for example.
- the time-controlled excitation of the magnets 19, 12 and thus the temporary opening of the injection nozzle takes place via the feed line 55 of the magnet winding 19.
- the high-frequency AC voltage for example 100 kHz, is supplied via the feed line to the liquid atomizer 21 provided according to the invention, which AC voltage, as described above, can be clocked synchronized with the injection process and the engine.
- the operation of the engine required in each case - idling, part-load operation, full throttle - can be achieved through ent speaking control of the input signal at input 54 (speed) can be controlled.
- the injection nozzle may be advantageous to set the injection nozzle to a minimum quantity with which the engine operates in minimal idling mode under optimal operating conditions or optimal operating state. Any additional fuel requirement for deviations from these idle conditions is then covered by controlled addition of fuel.
- the fuel supply of this minimum quantity can even (as already discussed above) be continuous and be based on an intended deliberate leak effect.
- the atomization then takes place either continuously through continuous oscillation operation or pulsed oscillation operation with interim accumulation of fuel on the surface 25, 124.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a fuel injector for internal combustion engines, as specified in the preamble of
It has been known for decades to supply the fuel to the engine instead of using a carburetor by injecting it into the intake pipe. In particular, in order to achieve a good nebulization of the fuel ejected from the injection nozzle into the intake pipe with the intake air, it is provided that the fuel emerging from the nozzle bore is sprayed onto the rear side of the inlet valve. The fuel impacting there is finely divided, the extent of the distribution among other things. also significantly from the current temperature of the intake valve, i.e. depends on the operating state of the engine just reached. Good atomization of the fuel can be achieved relatively easily if a more than minimal amount of fuel is sprayed onto an already well heated inlet valve through a relatively wide nozzle passage cross section.
It has been found that the favorable results described above can no longer be achieved or can only be achieved in a poorly approximate manner if only minimal amounts of fuel, such as are required for idling as a minimum dosage, are sprayed out. The result is even poorer if, in addition, the inlet valve or the corresponding part of the The intake duct that the injection jet hits is cold or still cold, as is often the case especially for engine operation in winter. Up to now, the usual remedy was to set the engine idling speed to such a high value that idling was still flawless even under the most unfavorable operating conditions. In favorable operating conditions, for example when the engine is warmed up, this then results in idling speeds which are in principle much too high compared to the idling speeds then required. Such an operation of an internal combustion engine that is not optimally coordinated is associated not only with increased fuel consumption, but also with a considerable environmental impact because, for example, excessively supplied fuel does not, or preferably only incompletely, burn and can produce dangerous exhaust gas products.
Similar problems and effects also arise for the so-called pushing operation of the engine, namely for the operating state in which the gas lever position is reduced so much at a more or less high vehicle speed that the engine is driven instead of being driven and produces braking action. A minimum fuel supply is already provided in this company so that when disengaging, e.g. when changing the gearbox, the engine does not stop immediately.
It is an object of the present invention to provide constructive measures and / or operating modes for a fuel injector of the type specified in the preamble of
This object is achieved for a fuel injector according to the preamble of
For the invention, it was assumed that the partial solution was to use ultrasound to atomize inadequately atomized fuel. The other possible solutions are to constructively connect the element that is to be ultrasonically vibrated for fuel atomization to the fuel injector in order to atomize the fuel emerging from the fuel injector as soon as it emerges. The injection end of the injection nozzle is accordingly designed as an ultrasonic liquid atomizer. In particular, the usual structure of an injection nozzle, which has been tried and tested over many years, can be retained, for example with a pear-shaped thickened front end of the nozzle needle. Of particular advantage is the structural design, in which the ejection opening of the nozzle, through which the front end of the adjustable nozzle needle protrudes, is designed as an atomizer element which surrounds the fuel outlet in a ring. A particularly preferred embodiment of the invention is that in which the injection nozzle, which is known in principle, is designed at its front nozzle end as a liquid atomizer according to
The difficulties associated with spraying a very small amount of fuel - such as those is required for idling - occur, namely that only insufficient atomization of the sprayed and above all of the fuel dripping from the nozzle opening is achieved. When the engine is still cold, there is also no subsequent fuel vaporization, so that a large part of the fuel entering the cylinder is expelled as unburned liquid or runs off the cylinder wall into the crankcase. In the case of an injection nozzle designed according to the invention, the fuel dripping from the nozzle opening in particular reaches the working area of the ultrasound atomizing worktop, which converts the fuel liquid into the finest fuel droplets. These droplets of fuel are taken up by the intake air and mixed with it. Even when the intake valve is cold, the cylinder receives a well-mixed air-fuel / droplet mixture which meets all requirements for good ignitability and complete combustibility.
Preferably the surface of the worktop of the liquid atomizer, i.e. the surface of the vibrating atomizer element, grooved, in particular provided with grooves running in the radial direction.

With 21 the ultrasonic liquid atomizer is referred to, as it is known in principle from the
The
The
For the electrical excitation of the piezoceramic, an electrical AC voltage with the resonance frequency of the
It is advisable to place the
The
Die übrigen Einzelheiten der Ausführungsform nach Fig.3 entsprechen der bereits beschriebenen Ausführung nach Fig.2.FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of an injection nozzle according to the invention, which is the same in the known parts of an injection nozzle as that in FIG. 2, but in which the ultrasonic
As with an injection nozzle according to the prior art, the fuel supply through
The consequence of this is that the amount of fuel to be injected during idling operation can be dosed very precisely to a minimum, since all fuel is atomized and no excess, which is in any case not precisely measurable, has to be added for the fuel portion which is known to leak out of the nozzle.
For the operation of a nozzle according to the invention it can be provided that the
An injection nozzle as in accordance with the invention can be operated in such a way that a minimal dose of fuel is continuously supplied to it, ie the
As already indicated above, an injection nozzle according to the invention is also suitable for providing an idling operation of the engine, which is controlled as a function of the respective current operating conditions. A so-called map control can be carried out, in which the only small amount of fuel supplied during idle operation is adapted to the current requirements, namely e.g. depending on whether the engine is still cold or already warm, whether the intake air is more or less humid and / or whether the load on the crankshaft is larger or smaller, e.g. B, with the transmission running, with the clutch engaged or disengaged or when the air conditioning system is switched on.
In Fig. 1, a basic arrangement is also added (dashed). The map control computer is designated by 51. The crankshaft or camshaft position of the engine is signaled via line 52. The inputs 53 and 54 are provided for entering temperature values and the speed values of the motor, for example. The time-controlled excitation of the
It may be advantageous to set the injection nozzle to a minimum quantity with which the engine operates in minimal idling mode under optimal operating conditions or optimal operating state. Any additional fuel requirement for deviations from these idle conditions is then covered by controlled addition of fuel. For this purpose, it is advantageous to dimension the
