Abstract
Description
It is known that in superconducting quantum interference detectors (SQUIDs) and in possibly existing superconducting devices for signal coupling into the SQUID, e.g. B. river trans formators, caused by frozen river threads and their movement noise. The SQUIDs and any existing superconducting signal coupling devices are described in the following Sen called sensors.
Especially the 1 / f noise at low frequencies is generated by these flux threads, and the The magnitude of the noise is a limit for the resolution of the sensors used. Faults that affect the function of the sensor and its readout electronics from the outside, can also transport river threads (Abrikosov and Josephson river threads) into the sensor animals and thus lead to an increase in noise in operation. This also leads to reduce the resolution of the sensors.
So far, it has been common practice to avoid external interference due to considerable effort (network filtering, Shields for electrical and magnetic interference fields, etc.) must be kept away from the measuring systems If the measuring behavior of the sensors has deteriorated, they will usually become warmed up to the normal line and then cooled again to the previously in the superconducting To get material out of the river threads. This can be done with a small electric heater serve to locally heat the sensor in situ, or the measuring system is temporarily removed from the kryo removed area.
On the one hand, this method is time-consuming because it takes time to heat and cool secondly, there is also the risk of causing interference, which in turn for freezing river threads in this or in other sensors of the respective measuring system stems can lead. Another disadvantage is the resulting coolant consumption Use of cryogenic liquids as a cold reservoir. When using small chillers the heat introduced into the system must be dissipated through it so that the temperature due to the longer cooling time drifts over a certain period of time and thus also to one Can falsify the measurement.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method with which in a sensor Any or all of the river threads that are present or brought in by faults can be removed quickly and easily are to be anchored at detention centers in the sensor structure and thus by reducing the be moving river threads to a clear and reproducible improvement of the resolving power leads. The disadvantages mentioned above should be avoided here, which is commercial used systems leads to a reduction in operating costs.
The object is achieved in that the river threads causing the noise either driven out of the sensor or into by a high-frequency magnetic field Pinning centers with high pin energy are inserted.
For this purpose, a high frequency source with a downstream amplifier z. B. via a Coil coupled to the sensor. The coil can optionally with a parallel con capacitor to a resonant circuit with a resonance frequency equal to that of the high frequency source be provided. This then leads to a further increase in what is coupled into the sensor magnetic field. The amplitude of the high-frequency current is increased so far that the Sen sensor becomes normally conductive due to the field created in the area of the Josephson contacts and therefore can no longer work. The river threads that are in the area of these contacts disappear immediately. In the still superconducting area of the sensor, the strong Alternating fields the only weakly bound river threads either driven out of the sensor or bound in higher energy pinning centers. Now the high frequency current is slow decreased and finally switched off completely after the sensor starts to function again. The method is suitable for reducing the noise of both DC and RF SQUIDs. At the former is permanently connected to the DC-SQUID evaluation electronics, for RF-SQUIDs it is possible to use the resonant circuit normally used for reading the sensor for use the noise reduction.
FIG. 1 shows the diagram of the measuring system can be seen in the embodiment. A bath cryostat 3 filled with liquid helium (LHe, 4 ) receives a sample holder 2 , on the cold end of which the sensor 8 is mounted. The evaluation electronics and the electronics for noise reduction 1 are located at the warm end of the sample holder. The resonant circuit 6 , with which the noise reduction is carried out and the sensor can also be operated as an RF SQUID, is located on the sensor. Additional feeds and a feedback coil 5 allow operation as DC-SQUID, and a coil 7 located around the sample holder generates a DC field at the sensor location.
With the exemplary embodiment, three series of measurements were taken to determine the functionality to test the procedure. For the high-frequency current used for noise suppression Frequencies of over 100 MHz are used, as otherwise effective noise suppression is no longer guaranteed was accomplished.
The first series of measurements examined the effect of noise removal on sensors that were put into operation shortly before the measurement by cooling in the cryostat. The influence of a DC magnetic field on the noise suppression and the effect on different SQUIDs were examined. As can be seen in FIG. 2, the 1 / f noise at 1 Hz was reduced by a factor of 5. In contrast, the white noise at 40 Hz remained largely constant. An influence of the applied DC magnetic field could not be identified.
In a second series of measurements, the method was tested for usability after disturbances examined. For this purpose, the sensor was run through several times in succession in the exemplary embodiment electromagnetic pulses, such as z. B. by switching electrical devices on and off come disturbed. The interference was so strong that the white noise also increased sharply. In addition to the 1 / f noise, this could also be reduced accordingly, as in Table 1 can be seen.
The disturbances could not be carried out reproducibly, which is reflected in one different levels of noise. Once the noise was removed, the sensors stayed on the low noise level without changing.
In a third series of measurements, the change in the flow signal of SQUIDs with temperature changes conditions under otherwise constant conditions. This change is due to the Changes in temperature caused movements of flow threads in the sensors. The dependence δΦ / δT on sensors that are not noisy is reduced by one Factors 4 to 5, and the dependence of δΦ / δT on DC magnetic fields was reduced also by a factor of 10.
