Die Erfindung betrifft. ein: Verfahren zur Herstellung " -
flüäsiger elektrophotographischer Entwickler g und deren
Anwendung zur.Entwicklung elektrostatischer latenter
hadungsbilder: .- L
Yerfahrgn for the healing and application of liquid electrical

The invention relates to. a: method of manufacture "-
liquid electrophotographic developer g and their
Application for the development of electrostatic latent
Hadungsbilder: .- L
It is already known that electrostatic latent charge
pictures by means of a liquid. Developer to develop
which consists of two fluid phases: once the
Carrier phase ,. which has a high electrical resistance,
and on the other hand - the pigment phase, which is the actual visual
causes the latent electrostatic image to be rendered.
For a quick and high-contrast rendering of the
latenhen hadingsbildes it is necessary that the. Pigment-
1 rersez s
Phase has an -electrostatic charge, which in the
Rule of the charging of the latent electrostatic charge
image is polar opposite. The principle of development
electrostatic latent charge image is essentially based
on the mechanism inherent in electrophoresis: loaded
Particles, here the -pigment @ phase, are affected
electrostatic force, here the latent electrostatic force
hadungsbildes "transported in the direction of the charge image"
where they are visibly reflected and so the latent charge

As already mentioned above, for the implementation of this
necessary that the pigment phase has an -electro-
Has static electricity. These are in the meantime with the
better known processes usually through the: physical
Phenomena of contact electricity, the adsorption = potential
or given the logoelectric potential, @ - d, ho every body
which is immersed in another sufficiently high insulation,
receives an electrostatic charge .. The polarity of this
Charging depends on the nature of the material used.
It has now been found - that only a few materials
assume a clear charge and that rather the majority
of the known materials at the same time partially positive
and have negative charge. For example, be
the percentages in a dispersion of.
Tartrazine, a product of the DUPont Company, has the following values in 0t.1.4: 40% of the dispersed particles have a positive charge, while about 60% assume a negative charge. The reasons for this undesirable fact are extremely complex. To remedy this fact, it has been proposed to mix certain controlling substances into the mixture of carrier phase / pigment phase, which are intended to guarantee that the pigment phase is clearly polarized.
But it is also disadvantageous. here that the volume of the charge of the pigment phase
is still not controllable.

As a rule, these substances are added to the pigment phase before the pigment and carrier phases are mixed. Even minor influences of the environment in relation to air humidity etc. change under certain circumstances: the behavior of the finished developer and its properties in relation to the development -contr @ -is to In addition there is the fact that historical influences on the pigment phase also the result development. The invention has the task: to avoid the disadvantages of the known methods? in particular to indicate ways and means in order to arrive at a reproducible and yet variable development technique. According to the invention, a liquid carrier phase is sprayed onto an equally liquid pigment phase by means of electrostatic forces, the pigment droplets being given a defined electrostatic charge that is maintained over a longer period of time. There is another purpose of this finding; To specify a method to use the developer produced according to the invention in such a way that optimum development also takes place in halftones and the copy paper only comes into contact with the developer on one side the pigment phase, which is also liquid, through an electrically conductive IC cannula or. It has now been found, after laborious experiments, that this superimposition effect does not occur or only occurs to a greatly reduced extent if the sputtering voltage is chosen to be sufficiently large.

Here. Such overlapping effects are completely absent and a stable emulsion developer is obtained which can also be used over longer periods of time and achieves excellent results: Example 1 black polystyrene is dissolved in ethylene chloride, if necessary, a dye that is also soluble in methylene chloride is added and a Electrically conductive capillary, at which there is an electrical potential of about 15.00o volts in the -carrier phase atomized-, -which consists of the FREON, which was sold under the brand name.
