Die Nutzungsdauer künstlicher Gelenke, z. B. Hüftgelenksprothesen ist begrenzt. Die Gründe für die Notwendigkeit einer Prothesenentfernung und Neuimplantationen sind Lockerungen, Luxation, Frakturen und Infektionen.
